Patient

My husband came in for a routine MRI on 10/31. An aortic hemorrhage was found. Almost 11cm in size, concern starts at 3-6. He was told he would need to be transferred to St Luke's for emergency surgery. Dr Rufer convinced my husband to stay here as they would specially order a part (graft) customized for his body. I joked and said he should have ordered it next day through Amazon. Dr Rufer said my husband should not leave and stay the weekend until the part was delivered for Monday surgery. Said no real risk and that he would be leaving the hospital Tuesday. My husband has been taken to the OR a total of 4 times and was intubated (life support) for 2 days. It is now Sunday, and not only have I learned (from his college who assisted in the surgery) no such part was ever ordered but they killed his left kidney, damaged his right kidney, and now his bowels have an obstruction. Dr Rufer LIED to us and has not been seen since. The only communication I have had with him was last Tuesday when he screamed at me over the phone for questioning him with newly discovered information obtained by staff and the Nephrologist. Dr Rufer and Dr LeSage's egos have left my husband forever damaged with no understanding when he might be allowed to leave. They put ego ahead of the patient and were clearly not equipped or skilled enough to handle such a case. Staff has been trying to gaslight me. So much more to report, but Google allows only so many characters I am terrified. We will be celebrating 25 years of marriage next month, God willing. Please pray. Nursing staff have given stellar care, hence the star.

I used to really like coming to Aurora, including the urgent Care. I would go to the urgent Care clinic for all my cold and cough type needs. Walked into urgent care for a suspected broken wrist 2 weeks ago, fully expecting to be transferred to the ER. My ER copay is reasonable so I thought this would be fine. I waited for 5 hours in the urgent Care. They did an x-ray and a partial cast, which started disintegrating almost as soon as it was put on and gave me a horrible rash. Just got the bill for $1,200. I do have insurance which is pretty good. I was double billed for everything twice for the X-ray etc. Called their billing department to ask, why wasn't I just sent to the ER, why didn't they build this a separate way and they explained to me that I was double billed for everything due to facility fees and they cannot change anything or give any sort of discount for prompt payment etc. I am telling everyone now avoid Aurora. You have been warned.

The ER is ran horribly. There needs to be a better flow and better communication. Having patients sit in the waiting for hours in end in excruciating pain is not right. After being told they had no idea when they would get to my elderly mom who couldn't sit and was exhausted from standing we called Froedert and tjey sqid bring her over. Less than 5 minutes in and she was taken back being cared for. Night and day difference with the compassion staff showed as well.

Patient

A patient added my number as their emergency contact, and for some reason I am getting flooded with texts to review the hospital visit and take the survey for my stay and now I am receiving texts about the patients bill and insurance. Someone obviously entered the wrong info in the wrong place. We have tried to correct this by contacting the hospital AND editing the account online. If this is how the place is run, I hope I never need emergency services through aurora.

Patient

I had a terrible experience at Aurora Health. I told the staff multiple times that I have POTS and a history of fainting during blood draws. Every other time I've been there, they've accommodated me by putting me in the blue recliner with an ice pack and juice ready. This time, the staff completely ignored what I said. Because they didn't listen, I fainted and seized. This was not only terrifying but also completely avoidable if they had simply followed my medical needs like they had in the past. The lack of care, communication, and compassion was unacceptable and dangerous. Patients should feel safe and listened to, but I left feeling dismissed and shaken. Aurora needs to train their staff better on listening to patients and taking their conditions seriously.
