How is it that someone's most prized possession can be treated with such disregard from those whose job is to literally care for them.
If they were in the position of having their parent, whose mind is lost to Alztheimers, will they be the same???
A Dear Friends 88 year Mother, had to be taken into our New Local Advent hospital, in Palm Coast, and how the staff there treated them is appalling.
I took it upon myself to give this review or rather warning, in hopes that it reaches those who allow this to happen.
They arrived before noon and wasn't admitted until very late in the evening.
That's not the real issue, aside from her age making her extremely vulnerable to the many patients in waiting with her.
My friend requested her mom be given her medication to calm her for her sundowners. It is a daily issue and she must give her a small dose of anxiety medication for it.
They then gave her a drug that should not be given to anyone late in the evening, let alone someone who needs something to calm her down, as sundowners creates an outburst of mass confusion.
The medication was a stimulant. By far not something to calm her.
They ran tests, X-rays and a ct, then diagnosed her with having a kidney stone and on the verge of sepsis...
She washed someone else's blood from the sink in her moms room...
Then on Tuesday told them that not a stone but calcification and began to discharge her. No treatment at all.
That process of discharge again taking many hours long to process and her nurse forgot to remove her IV, and had to bring her back to her room remove it.
The nurse also refused to medicate her again for sundowners, and argued with her mom, whose mind no longer her own, rather than holding herself to a standard of being a care giver. No compassion in this young woman who is just beginning her career with n nursing.
Advent, needs to train their staff how to treat their Alztheimers patients. Train them to respect them and to manage the agitation rather than cause even be more agitated. Train them to keep rooms sanitary.
The ride home for them, was extremely difficult. My friend was so upset about how her mom was treated, and no solution to the matter because she was prescribed a medication that costs hundreds of dollars and not covered by her insurance.
They now have to wait until today for them to get something else prescribed leaving her momma still in great pain, still sick, still in pain, still not having any answers.
Advent claims to be an organization of being Christian owned and operated, here the market cornered, with the only local hospital system...
They are nothing of what they claim to be...
Word is that St Vincent's north in St Augustine a better solution, even though a distance away.

Went to emergency for cellulitis and an abscess. Had the be admitted for 3 days. Every person I came in contact with treated me with respect and care. They are professional and knowledgeable. Tested me for everything imaginable. I'm very impressed with my first (and hopefully last) stay there.

Monday was my second visit with Dr. Greinke. Again, I really appreciated the time she took with me.
Our oldest daughter (who lives in TX) was with me. After the visit, she volunteered, "If I ever move up here" (she's considering it, to be closer to family), "I think I'd like to make Dr. Greinke my doctor, too," or words to that effect.
Thank you, Dr. Greinke!

I went in at 4 am after having a rough fall of my sobriety. I was scared and honest with the staff and no judgment no questions ask they were so kind and treated me so well. They gave me the fluids and meds I needed to make it thru those scary rough few hours and I didnt feel judged a single bit. The offered resources but I already know them all and will be reach out to my people. Im feeling so much better I made the right choice
