Patient
Last summer, I was referred to WVU Heart and Vascular Institute after concerns over some peculiar symptoms I was experiencing. To say the experience was disappointing would be an understatement. I saw Dr. Challa and Dr. Muthukumar. While Dr. Challa had wonderful bedside manners and seemed to care about finding the source of my symptoms, Dr. Muthukumar was incredibly dismissive and spoke to me as if I was a child, stating I just needed to "drink more water" and insinuated my health issues were the result of anxiety. I was told to come back if my symptoms "worsen", as if the severity of how I was already feeling wasn't enough. Just recently, I got a second opinion and was diagnosed with Orthostatic Hypotension, a chronic condition that requires a considerable amount of effort to manage other than just staying hydrated, and it certainly is not "just anxiety". These symptoms were nearly debilitating at times until I started to implement the suggested methods. While I understand Doctors are not miracle workers, and cannot diagnose everything first try, there is no excuse to dismiss a patient's wellbeing with such flippancy and treat them as a child, as if they don't know their own body. If you want a doctor who will truly care, go to Dr. Brito at St. Josephs in Buckhannon.
