We just want to give a big thank-you to everyone we've met at the Ruby Memorial Birthing Center. Every single person -- from the front desk and security to the phlebotomy team, nurse practitioner, doctors, and PA Ben -- has been wonderful. The nurses, especially Lindsey and Shyanne, have been amazing. They've answered every question we've had, been super attentive, and really made us feel comfortable and cared for. You can tell they love what they do and genuinely care about their patients. They stayed over to help us and we couldn't have picked better nurses. Overall, everyone has gone above and beyond for us, and we're really grateful for how kind and professional the whole team has been. Cortnie & Chris

I drove an hour and a half for my scheduled nerve test. Was greeted by dr. James. Needless to say dr. James was clueless. He had no idea why I was there. He at one point asked me if I had the nerve test that I was scheduled for that day. I wasted an entire day off work to go to an appointment that was convenient for them and wasted $50 in gas. I am not at all pleased and am still suffering due to their lack of caring. All dr. James wanted to do was argue with me about other test results and all he had to do was call the neurologist office to get them. He claimed he had no staff that could or would do that. So I left and called to file a complaint when i got home. Spoke to Bobbi a patient advocate mind you I use that term lightly. She promised me gas cards and was supposed to get me in with another provider. She was to call me back the next day. I waited the entire day and on the next day I called and again asked for the administrator. I was put through to their secretary who was about as helpful as an oak plank. She transferred me back to the useless patient advocate which further enraged me. Needless to say I am still waiting for a call back and has been 20 hours, my time is just as valuable as theirs but they don't treat you that way. We mean nothing to them but a dollar sign. There had better not be a charge for the appointment because I was not treated. Charging for the appointment would be insurance fraud.

The doctors I have seen for the most part are great! The nursing staff on the other hand is lacking. Lacking compassion, lacking human decency, care... Wanting to play God. Goes against your doctors orders... If they wanted to play at being doctors they should have went to school for it. This is my second stay at this supposedly top notch hospital and I have not had a good experience. Both times I have been admitted to neurology. And both times my care has been subpar. The only nurse that's amazing is Becky!! I also am being forced to be bed bound and I wouldn't care as I'm not well... but when they won't come to your room so you can go to the restroom that's kinda hard to stay bed bound. I do not recommend this hospital!!! If your loved one has to stay here please make sure someone is with them as they will not receive the care they're supposed to. Yet the care team will lie and say they did.

I am the father and legal guardian of a child with sickle cell who was treated at WVU Children's Hospital. My daughter's care under Dr. Stephan R. Paul, MD was dismissive, unsafe, and unacceptable. The first major incident happened in June, when Dr. Paul attempted to discharge my daughter while she was still in unresolved severe pain from a life-threatening condition. When I calmly asked for an explanation, he told me: "There's nothing else we can do, and there's nothing else we will do," then turned his back on me and walked out of the room, despite me calm trying to ask him questions to get relief for my daughter. After he left, another physician -- Dr. Julie Phillips -- stepped in, provided the appropriate care, and resolved my daughter's pain. That was part of the reason I did not report Dr. Paul at the time. I am not someone who goes looking for problems, and I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. Months later, in late September, my daughter was admitted again. She had already been in the hospital for one week with a severe vaso-occlusive pain crisis presenting as intense chest and rib pain, a serious sickle-cell complication. On September 30th, Dr. Paul called me while I was at work and gave a false report, claiming my daughter had said she was "feeling good" and ready to go home. She never said this. That false documentation could have jeopardized her care. On October 1st, while she was still in severe pain and actively battling ACS, Dr. Paul again attempted to discharge her prematurely. When I confronted him about the risks, he dismissively said, "We're not going through this today," and then hung up on me. After multiple encounters like this, the pattern is undeniable: dismissive, lacking empathy, and unwilling to respect a parent advocating for his child. I do not use words like prejudice lightly, but the repeated conduct speaks for itself. This is not just unprofessional -- it is dangerous. I have filed a formal complaint and requested records. Parents should be warned: always verify what is documented in the chart and never accept dismissiveness when your child is dealing with a life-threatening condition like ACS Update - October 11, 2025: My 11-year-old daughter, who has sickle-cell disease, was brought to WVU Children's Hospital after her prescribed oral pain medications failed to control her pain at home. We drove more than an hour believing she would receive evidence-based care consistent with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) 2014 Evidence-Based Management of Sickle Cell Disease Guidelines. Those expert-panel guidelines clearly state that when oral medications fail to relieve a vaso-occlusive pain crisis, treatment should escalate to IV opioid therapy with IV fluids, and the patient should be admitted for ongoing inpatient management until pain is controlled. Despite providing this information directly to Dr. Stephen Paul and Dr. Kennedy, both dismissed the national standard and insisted on continuing oral medication only--the same regimen that had already failed at home. My daughter remained in severe pain for the rest of the visit in the ER without IV pain relief or admission. When I calmly asked Dr. Kennedy when she would finally receive the IV morphine we were told was coming, he instead called hospital security--an unnecessary and unprofessional response toward a parent advocating for his child. Dr. Kennedy then informed me that they would not be giving my daughter any further pain medication, despite her being in an active sickle-cell pain crisis, and that I could take her to another hospital. With no other option, I was forced to drive nearly three hours to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore while my daughter was still in unresolved pain. My daughter's condition worsened while we were kept in the ER, and no escalation or admission was provided despite clear clinical need and established national guidance. I hope WVU Medicine leadership investigates this case so that no other child in pain is denied proper treatment again.

Amazing staff and hospital. Was in Morgontown visiting family and had a serious medical event. Arrived at hospital in extreme pain. Was treated very quick and got a proper diagnosis in quick order along with the necessary pain management. I was admitted and stayed several days before release. I just can't say enough how great both Doctors and Nurses were to me and my family. This is a top notch facility. My wife has been a nurse for 30 years and she also liked the care and the treatment we received. No hospital is perfect and no place has perfect staff. But the hospital is a nice hospital in excellent shape and I would not think twice about going there for care.
