Before joining Riverside Cardiology Specialists, Dr. O'Brien was the director of cardiovascular services at UHS Cardiology-Norwich at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, New York. During his 10 years there, he also served as medical staff president from 2014-2015.
For Dr. O'Brien, caring runs in the family. His father, an internal medicine physician who operated a private practice for 50 years, initially inspired him to pursue cardiology. Shortly after completing his fellowship, Dr. O'Brien would follow in his father's footsteps. For more than 20 years, he practiced general cardiology at the O'Brien Health Center in his hometown of Winooski, Vermont.

Not pleased. Terrible intake, cold and unfriendly staff, physician and attending PA's / nurses non communicable throughout exam. Absolutely NO bedside manner - not even smiles! Felt as though no one could be bothered and my time and money wasted without concrete answers, prognosis, follow-up recommendations.

I really wanted to like Dr. O.Brien. My first visit was fine, once I got in the door. When I can actually see him, I cannot complain about a thing, so to be clear, this review is about scheduling and not getting the healthcare I need when I need it. I just received my FOURTH reschedule call from this office.
First vist - they call to reschedule and it was WAY out from the original date.
Second visit-they call to reschedule and it was WAY out as well.
Third visit - again reschedule.
Fourth - here we go again.
These are the reasons they have given-
*He will now be out of town, he will now be on call (twice) the fourth I cannot remember. (not in order)
Can I just stress this is CARDIOLOGY! I am here for heart and vascular reasons. This isn't a primary care visit. I am disappointed in this office's inefficient way of running things. I could not tell you if it is a communication break down between Dr. O'Brien and his team, but his team told me to discuss with him these concerns. Lovely, if I could actually get in the door. My appointment that was being rescheduled from 1st week of Feb? They could get me in April. ??
I kept going back, thinking this could not possibly happen over and over.
Obviously, I will be looking for a new Cardiologist and I cannot recommend this "office" to anyone. Dr. O'Brien can only be helpful if I can be an actual patient.
Time for me is important. For others, perhaps not so much if you have all the time in the world, no job and can take any appointment at any time on any day. I am sure he values his time and I wish he valued mine just as much.

I will not be going back after my first appointment. Was looking for a new cardiologist because my current one seemed disconnected. This doctor is so much worse! Said he didn't believe I had a heart condition because I was too young, and even though I had been diagnosed previously, there was no way I had damaged my heart during childbirth thirteen years ago because, again, I was too young. He had me wear a monitor to "prove" to me my heart was fine, the reading showed MULTIPLE irregularities in my heart rhythm (even though I am taking beta blockers), but he still documented the findings as "normal." He needs to learn that age has nothing to do with how well your heart beats, and he also needs to put patients over pride. Until he drastically changes and improves, go to a different cardiologist!

This Doctor does not know how to appropriately engage with patients. He uses the most inappropriate tone (yelling). He communicates with patients in a demeaning as well as belittling manner. I see why he has open availability at all times. He will misdiagnose a person and focus on every other part of the body except the heart, his actual speciality. Select another cardologist other than this one!

First, don't pay attention only to the negative reviews for this man. I highly recommend Dr. O'Brian. He was professional, courteous and thorough. He spent considerable time investigating my records and EKGs present and past. I was very pleased.
