I am very impressed with the culture of empathy and compassion that my family experienced throughout Norfolk General Hospital. My father was a patient on the 10th floor ICU and then Step Down unit and then the BTU for a total of just short of a month. My family was there every day and witnessed the superb care that my dad received. Having stayed in one of the 6th floor guest rooms the entire time , we had kind interactions with cafeteria staff and the various health professionals we encountered there. The hospital cafeteria food was the best I've had at a hospital. The EVMS physicians were caring and took time to answer all of our questions. The nurses were attentive and caring about my father's needs. Sadly my father died but the time we spent at the hospital was not what one would expect. I highly recommend this facility.

Two weeks a go my husband was transferred to the Nortfolk general hospital hospital with a heart problem, them treated him very well specially Dan he nurse and the greatest DR. Parth K. Parikh amazing doctor!!! So I live in Hampton... I was wake till 4:00 am when I took my husband at ER Sentara Carplex them was amazing also. So my husband said is not good I drive back, specially night time, but since I was wake for so long I feel my body going to shut down. So he nurse Dam, sugest me I can stay at GUEST CENTER on 6 floor. And with all he patience he took me there and asked for the security come and give me on room. Soon the security arrived he give me o e room.. come inside the room no towel for take shower ?? Went to the bathroom no sanitize hands. ( the product was the but not opened) so I run at gif shop and got one soap bar.. the only think I can do is brush my teeth and sleep like that. The toothbrush I use to care with them didn't give me. While I try to sleep one strong smell keep wake me, I change my position and the hair creamer whatever was in the pillow!!! I stand up and try to sleep in one chair them have in the room. But I can't stay so long inside the room. One and Half days later I feel like someone punch in my throat. Is hard to me even swallow my on saliva. I started blowing my nose come blood, today I cough and come blood. I don't think this is normal. So I decided to talk to my primary doctor. I keep updating. So this is just one warning for people is not because you're inside one hospital you're safe. And just for let you guys know yeahhh when I walked around I have my mask with me, I just can't sleep with my mask on right????i FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, I FIGHT WITH MY B CELL LIMPHOMA. The nurses for my post c-section care were wonderful! The nurse who prepped me for my c-section beforehand was awful and arrogant. She put my catheter in wrong and it was halfway out for my entire surgery and part of my post partum care until a doctor noticed it (right before it had to be removed, so it wasn't much help). Due to her lack of skill my arm was bruised for 3 weeks after my surgery. My c-section was very traumatic, I feel as if the doctor did not treat me as if l were human, and only a number on a chart, or a pig on a table. I requested no men be allowed in the room unless it was absolutely necessary (due to SA trauma) and I was told they'd hang a sign on the door. So tell me why when I was being prepped a guy came walking in to just see how everything was going, and then just left and walked out after walking over to me while I was bare on the table. I also asked that they not tell me when they were entering the urinary catheter for the same reason, it was on my birth plan and I was told they'd informed everyone who'd be in the O.R. So tell me why when I get in there the lady says "they are entering the catheter now". They also poked me 8 times (4 numbing needles and 4 spinal tap needles) after the lady bragged about being 'super good at these'. It may not seem like a big deal to you, but it ruined the entire experience for me. It has given me extreme ptsd and tokophobia.
Would NOT RECOMMEND!!

Was here for 6 hours with my partner just to be talked to once about a severe chemical burn taking up most of his ankle/ calf. They love kicking your wife/ husband out of the ER waiting room when they're not doing their job fast enough even though they're sitting right next to you.

My father has been in here for three days now with a double gunshot wound both legs , where he was innocently shot by a neighbor, Every time I've been trying to get in touch with the nurse it's been next to impossible every time my dad presses his nurse button to get one in there. It's also taken way too long, or they don't even come !!!! I was on the phone with him and heard how badly the nurses were talking to him. It was absolutely disgusting and I can't get through to anyone above them so I guess I will go here and say these nurses need to be heavily looked at if I wasn't two hours away I'd be there myself going off on all of them !!! . I had a nurse tell me she was in a meeting so she could not go attend to my father who needed her, ridiculous !!!!! Do better !!!!! Or find a new career !!!!!
