J. Timothy Sherwood, MD

I was planning to have shoulder surgery when a routine scan of the shoulder revealed a nodule in my lung that later turned out to be a adenocarcinoma. I was referred to Dr. Timothy Sherwood at Mary Washington Hospital for assessment and treatment. The referral to Dr. Sherwood was right on due to Dr. Sherwood's expertise with video assisted thoracic surgery. My wife and I were immediately at ease with Dr. Sherwood. He was personable, present and engaged. He respectfully addressed both my wife and I throughout the meeting. He had already read my record and was prepared. Dr. Sherwood conducted his own assessment and asked clear and concise questions. Dr. Sherwood was jargon free and clearly explained medical terms when using them. He provided ample time for questions and enabled me to weight choices and make informed a decision about surgery. He even said that he would follow me in perpetuity indicating that follow up care was as important to him as it was to to me. I had absolute confidence in my decision to have surgery and absolute confidence in Dr. Sherwood. He maintained the same level of care and elevated practice whenever I met with him. True to his word, I have regular follow up meetings planned with him into the future.

Dr. Sherwood is a wonderful medical professional and his expertise is in cardiothoracic surgery. Recently, he repaired a very large hiatal hernia I had developed. He was very informative and thorough in explaining what the surgery and post-op would entail. I have had quite a few surgeries and at 1 week post-op, I feel so much better.

Dr Sherwood is one of the most compassionate, thorough, and knowledgeable surgeons I have ever dealt with. He recently performed my second lung surgery and both times he explained everything in detail and always took the time to answer any questions or concerns. His office staff is equally just as kind and caring. Hands down, they are the BEST!!!

Dr. Sherwood is an excellent Dr. He is an expert in the field . I am thankful that I had this opportunity to have him as a Dr. His staff is also very nice. I recently had repairs on two hernia's. His staff and the hospital staff were excellent. Dr Sherwoods bedside manner is perfect. He answers all of my questions in away that I would understand. He has a great sense of humor and put all of your anxiety to rest.

Dr. Sherwood impressed me during my first appointment with him about laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair. During my first visit, he took time to listen. He showed interest in my individual condition. He took notes. He explained the procedure in detail while referencing pictures of anatomy in a book to help me understand. He answered questions thoroughly in easy to understand language and he provided me with a pamphlet about the repair procedure. Subsequently, following a couple of tests to guide the surgery, he performed the surgery successfully and was in my hospital room first thing in the morning the next day. Absolutely amazing! After Dr. Sherwood performed the hiatal hernia repair surgery, I no longer experience heartburn or acid reflux. I also am not taking two, high dosage acid reducing medicines that I had been taking for decades. I highly recommend Dr. Sherwood, his physician assistants, nurses and staff. Five well deserved stars!
