Dr. Michael McCabe is a specialty care physician board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology/hepatology. He joined Inova in 2025 and has been practicing since 2013.
Before joining Inova, Dr. McCabe was a Partner at Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology, the largest gastroenterology practice in Denver, CO, where he led their advanced endoscopy program. During his tenure, he served as Medical Director, developing and implementing a system-wide advanced endoscopy program that expanded access to cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic procedures across the region. He is excited to begin the next chapter of his career at Inova and return to the East Coast to be closer to his growing family.

I had a very frustrating experience when trying to schedule an appointment with Dr. McCabe's office. I called to explain that I was dealing with abdominal pain, bloating, and indigestion, and needed medical assistance. However, instead of scheduling the appointment, the receptionist began diagnosing my symptoms over the phone, asking for more and more details. When I explained my situation, she said the information I provided wasn't enough, which felt incredibly dismissive.
She also insisted on a referral, even though my insurance allows me to see a specialist without one. When I explained this, she became increasingly uncooperative and impatient. Despite my attempts to clarify, she continued pressing for a referral and eventually cut the call off abruptly. Her rude behavior and lack of patience were very unprofessional and left me feeling disregarded.
While I understand the importance of office procedures, the receptionist's dismissive attitude and lack of empathy were completely off-putting. This experience has made me seriously question whether I want to pursue care at this practice. I hope the office staff receives better training in customer service, as this interaction was far from what I expected when seeking medical assistance.
