He will recommend procedures be done regardless of what's been done in the past. So if you're not medically inclined to fully understand what has been done to you in the past, take his recommendations with a grain of salt and get a second opinion. Find someone who will take the time to read your medical records and understand what has been done to you medically in the past. Do not let your elderly relatives come to this doctor alone.
