Dr. Nguyen has been my cardiologist for several years and I would not go anywhere else. He has seen me through several issues and has always taken the time to explain everything to me clearly and make sure that I feel comfortable. He also takes the time to answer questions I might have and you don't feel rushed. I have never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes to get back into the room and this includes the time it takes for the nurse to take my vital signs. Also, everyone in the office is always friendly and considerate. They also say hello and call me by name, so I feel as though everyone, not just Dr. Nguyen, cares about how I feel. I always recommend Dr. Nguyen and his office to anyone who might ask me about cardiologists.

Due to an insurance change with my employer, my previous cardiologist (who accepted my new plan) was unable to perform a procedure due to the only in network hospitals being those she did not have privileges at, so she referred me to Dr Nguyen at Houston Interventional Cardiology as she apparently does for others in my situation. I spoke in person with the lady at the front desk to schedule an appointment with Dr Nguyen which was necessary before scheduling the procedure at the hospital and conveyed the urgency of getting the appointment and procedure done as quickly as possible. Even though I'm confident I conveyed this properly, she said she couldn't schedule me for any earlier than 4 weeks out. After stopping by my main cardiologist office and letting them know, they called and were able to get my appointment moved up to the following day. I'm not sure why I wasn't able to get this handled the same way as I spoke to the same person, but this has been my only issue with this practice to date. The next day I showed up on time and only had to wait about 5-10 minutes before going back to a room (waited about 5 more minutes after the nurse took vitals and left before the doctor came in). My appointment with Dr Nguyen went better than I expected and he was extremely calm, taking the time to explain in very easy to understand terms what my main cardiologist had found, why I needed the procedure, and what to expect before, during and after. My previous cardiologist, while good, is not the most warm or communicative with her approach so I greatly appreciated this. He got my procedure scheduled at the end of the appointment and performed it with success and made me feel at ease the entire time, again explaining in detail and easy to understand terms what the results were and what to expect for recovery. Subsequent visits have been similar to my first appointment where Dr Nguyen takes his time with me and makes sure I understand what he's trying to convey and answers any questions I have in detail. I never feel like I'm being rushed so he can move on and I've never had to wait long in the waiting room or patient rooms when visiting. I've noticed others in the waiting room tend to have short waits as well, so maybe the other negative review was just somebody having the misfortune of being there on a very off day. All the staff I have interacted with have been friendly and showing general interest in me which is great. Due to my interactions with Dr Nguyen I now use him as my primary cardiologist and am very happy with the decision. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is due to the issue with the lady at the front desk when I was trying to schedule the first appointment to have my procedure done. Not understanding the urgency and reason for scheduling and putting me on the schedule for 4 weeks out literally could have cost me my life, so I feel she should be more receptive to the patient when they are explaining things to her. I do want to point out she was very polite, however.

Dr Tawa has been my cardiologist since 2006. My visits have always been pleasant, he takes time to answer any questions I have, and explain procedures. When I don't see him, his nurse practitioner, Angie, is just as knowledgeable and very friendly. I only deal with the front staff briefly at check ins, but they have always been top notch too.
