While staying in Myrtle Beach for a couple of weeks, I developed extreme pain to my left eye but figured it would be better in the morning. Unfortunately, in the morning, it was worse and had lost half of my vision in that eye. As an ER Nurse myself, in NYC, I was aware that this could be a medical emergency and went to The Grand Strand Medical Center's ER. Keep in mind, it is very difficult to get an ER Nurse to go to an Emergency Room as a patient, period. I was pleasantly surprised. I was triaged almost immediately with only one other person finishing up in front of me, brought to a private examining room and greeted by a Nurse in less than 5 minutes, medical history, vitals, etc. Within ten minutes more, the ER Attending MD was in the examining room taking further history and thoroughly examined both eyes with both a slit lamp and an ultrasound. It was an ulcer on my eyeball (creepy, right?). He said he was going to give me a referral to an specialist nearby and even called that Ophthalmologist's office for me and said they could see me right away, in my opinion, going beyond the call of duty. The area of the ER that I was assigned to was immaculate, I mean clean, spotless. All of the staff was polite, respectful and efficient. In fact, it turned out that my Attending MD had even done his residency there and had decided to continue his practice at that same hospital where he had been trained. As an experienced RN, who has worked many years in a Hospital that supports graduate medical education for nearly 5,000 residents annually, it is always a good sign when an MD who has trained at a Hospital for 4 years of Residency to graduate and stay on at that same Hospital. I would highly recommend Grand Strand Medical Center's Emergency Room, they are doing a great job there.

I had as good of an experience as you can have when you break your leg and need surgery! The ER did a good job, especially Jeremy. My team of nurses and nurse techs were all great. My surgeon, Dr. Papadelis was incredible. They listened to me and did not push me when it came time for me to start moving around after surgery. I really appreciated all of my team. I feel very lucky.

Everybody was so kind and considerate. They were all wonderful and knowledgeable in their field. I am an out of town or from New York. This place was exceptional. I appreciate all the nurses and doctors that took care of me although I am on vacation down here in Myrtle Beach, I would surely consider moving down here permanently, knowing their care facilities are A number one. Thank you to everyone that took care of me during my stay. God bless you all. Be well and stay safe. My name is James.Coccaro

My father checked in to this facility for a routine surgery in October, and is still here weeks later after complications related to the surgery. I'm not exaggerating when I say that Grand Strand/HCA almost killed him. He was transferred to the ICU, sedated, and intubated due to respiratory complications. Despite having stable vitals and measurable improvement during his time in the ICU, Dr. Meyer and the palliative care team tried to pressure my mom (a former ICU nurse herself) to sign papers to transfer him to hospice care. It's a good thing we were skeptical. I did some research and learned that HCA has been investigated by NBC News after allegations from the SEIU about improper hospice practices to bolster their numbers. Our family's experience was identical to that of the NBC News report. Despite being told by Dr. Meyer that he was in a deep comatose state and would likely never wake up, he woke up the very next day and has steadily improved in every other area in the week since then. His tube was removed and he was transferred out of the ICU. If we had listened to Dr. Meyer, my dad would very likely be dead right now. Since he's been transferred out of the ICU, he has been denied food, on the claim that speech therapy needs to assess his throat function first. Yet three days later, nobody has come by and they're just letting him starve. The level of neglect we've seen from this facility is infuriating, they're prioritizing profits over patients and the public needs to know about this.

I went in with severe lower back pain. I couldn't have been put on the fast track any faster. I was moved swiftly to a room. Testing began and I was made comfortable as possible. Everyone I came in touch with was so kind and patient with me even tho I may not have shown them the same to them. Soon my test were back and treatment began. I was in hospital three days. From ER, 3rd floor stay, and discharge, all employees made my visit to Grand Strand Hospital very comfortable and trusting. I hope I don't have to but if I need to I will go to GSH again knowing they will help me. Thank you to everyone that helped me.
