I've known I wanted to be a physician since High School. I enjoyed studying science and I loved helping people, so it was an obvious career choice. I chose cardiology because of the variety the specialty allows. In the morning, I could be in the Cath Lab doing procedures, in the afternoon, I could be in the clinic helping patients make lifestyle choices. \n Since 2000, I've happily called Hilton Head home. I'm honored to have been the Chairman of the cardiology department for many years. I have also played a role in developing our cardiology clinic, and ensuring we have acquired the modern equipment needed to provide the most advanced care possible. Our team works well together; we help each other when needed and truly enjoy what we do, ...

The front reception personnel were friendly and professional. My experience with the nursing team was also first class. My visit with the doctor was very positive-I learned a lot about my cardiac health and we have a plan for going forward. I would highly recommend Dr Kaplan and his team.

Dr Kalan was very thorough in giving us all the details of the results of the Boston Scientific heart monitor and assured us that everything looked satisfactory. We have known Dr. Kalan for almost 20 years and he has taken great care of my husband and me. Tell him thank you for us!

Had a one year follow up with Dr. Kalan after being diagnosed with a very high coronary calcium score. Dr. Kalan speaks with confidence and provides good insight as to treatment plans and expectations. He is never rushed and allows sufficient time for questions. He often cites Cleveland Clinic studies which, in my view, is the gold standard of care.

Not able to walk I was admitted to the ER on Friday November 21, and placed in room 15. During a four hour period I was administered a series of procedures to determine if I had a stroke or a spinal issues and requested to see a nurse each time the technician saw me - no nurse came to assist me to go to the bathroom or to provide me a urine bottle or water.
Unlike rooms in the hospital, I had no access to a nurse call button. If I had a stroke during that period I would have no way to alert the staff and would be left to suffer the outcome ! I was ultimately visited by a doctor and he was able to summon a nurse. I was informed by the staff that the ER at the hospital has malfunctioning call units and they have no replacements. (this could have been an excuse ). Ultimately I was provided with a hospital bed and a electronic device which included a call button. Bottom line, if you go the ER, insist on having a nurse call device.
