I met with Dr. Shawn Mathias for the first time. He reacted as though he had already reviewed my chart. He was patience, after inquiring, "Did I have questions?" all of my questions were answered, while making sure I understood. From the moment I stepped into the building, everyone was super nice and helpful. From the receptionists to the nurses. I am glad I chose this cardiologist and location. I recommend them highly. After having triple bypass surgery, also known as a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), by Dr Robert Grant Willis, in whom he is Super Fantastic!!!

Dr.Taylor has been our newest doctor in hubbys Rolodex of appointments lol .Unexpected new diagnosed heart issue then a blood clot also 80% blockage within 2 week span felt like walls were closing on us very scary. But even worse a few days after getting 2 stents hs one and only sibling who was only 58 dropouts dead. Support from me as a wife was hard to navigate however Dr. Taylor is such a doll he has normal guy bedside manner which for my hubby will deal deal weather he wants to return felt like 2 buddies chatting but he has the professionalism a wife loves He is precious needs a raise.

This place needs some serious bedside manners. My wife had an appointment today and when she checked in the receptionist was asking if she had various issues. And to which my wife responded that she's just pregnant. To which the receptionist responded "I didn't ask that"..... excuse me?! You don't talk to people that way just because they are younger than you. You definitely don't belittle a grown patient there for care. If you don't like your job, hit the clock and go home.

I gave my insurance information to a very nice lady over the phone and scheduled an appointment for a cardiologist for nearly 6 months later, as that was the soonest available they had. I went in for my appointment, gave them my insurance card, they scanned it in and told me I had no copay due today, and start filling out paperwork, etc. Then I was seen by the cardiologist - then went through the checkout process. Was told I didn't owe anything. Also referred to an additional doctor as well. Fast forward a few months, went to the additional doctor, same thing with my insurance card, ended up paying a copay. Fine Went back for a follow-up appointment with this location, gave them my insurance information, "no copay due today sir! Go ahead and have a seat and we will be right with you!" Then I was led to the back, and greeted by the office manager as well as the EKG tech, saying there was some kind of problem with my insurance and that I would need to pay everything out of pocket. It turns out this place does NOT accept my insurance. They were very apologetic and told me that I would not owe anything for this second visit, and they were very sorry that the staff up front allowed me to come through the system twice without saying a word about not taking my insurance. Fast forward - I've been sent to collections, even after paying the money that I was told that I would not owe. (I mean I literally walked inside, and was told that my insurance would not be accepted, and I walked back out with them apologizing for their front end staff making a mistake again) And they will not do anything about it. My experience with this location, shows me what kind of healthcare facility this is. They do not care about you, they only care about the almighty dollar. Simply pathetic. I wouldn't go here again simply because of their character and workplace ethic. And obviously their inability to train their staff. There are many cardiologist locations that take multiple different insurance types. BCBS isn't exactly an unknown provider. Make sure you have the correct specific type of insurance, if you choose to jump through this particular hoop.

After reading the other reviews, I was really nervous about going to this practice and almost canceled before doing so. I got caught in a traffic snarl and called to let them know. It did take awhile for them to get to me in their phone queue. When it was my turn, they found another patient had shown up early and took that person in to give me time to get there. I did get there about 20 min late, but since I had called, they worked around my late arrival. The front desk staff was gracious and kind to everyone I saw them interact with. (I was attentive to small details since the reviews here were so dismal for the most part.) It was quite busy, and only 3 of the 5-6 employee seats in the check in area were filled. However, they got everyone checked in quickly and pleasantly. (I assume the empty chairs were a function of the short staffing that all businesses deal with now.) When Dr. Z. Dowdy entered the room, he said, "So, you just moved up from New Orleans, huh? Well, I trained at (the hospital were my cardiologist was based), and your MD there was my supervising Fellow." He accessed my records, saw what my MD, & his former supervisor, had planned to do next. His asked a few questions and said, "Let's do it." As in: I'm ordering what your NOLA cardio planned to do next. Relief flooded over me as I had anticipated having to lobby, explain, convince, etc. this 'new' MD at length to keep from being brushed off. The lady who checked me out could not have been nicer as she scheduled my next visit and filled out the paperwork for the test Dr. Dowdy ordered. I am very, VERY thankful I did not let the bad reviews in this thread scare me off. I do not discount the folks who reported bad experiences at all. I am sorry anyone felt the services received were sub par. However, I would advise anyone looking here to decide whether to use this group to see them at least once. You can always get a 2nd opinion or tell your primary care Upstate was not a good fit and move on. I was prepared to come home and jump on the bad review bandwagon, and am so pleased to share this good review instead!
