Dr. Gopi Shah is just a really nice man and an excellent doctor. He is direct when he needs to be. He is thoughtful. He listens to me, his patient, and answers my questions, when I need answers. And he never lets me get away with anything - like not taking my meds right!

Dr. Wells and the staff are amazing!!! Been coming here since 2009 and never had any bad experiences. When my daughter had a scare with er heart, yep you guessed it, took her to Dr. Wells! I've been to other heart clinics but this one is the best!!!

I am a young and healthy individual, born with a minor heart defect that has never caused me problems. According to my primary care provider, now that I am in my 30s, it is important to have 5-year check-ups with a cardiologist to make sure I am still in good health. I scheduled an appointment with Columbia Heart Clinic and had an overall great experience. The staff and Dr. Holliday were very pleasant. However, after about a month of seeing Dr. Holliday, I received a bill from Columbia Heart Clinic for more than $750. I asked several times if my insurance was accepted and was assured that it was. Indeed, they accepted my insurance, but my insurance did not pay what they believed their services were worth, so I was left with the bill to pay out-of-pocket. I am a graduate student at the University of South Carolina with a meager living stipend as income. Although I gained a professional cardiologist's opinion that I am still in good cardiovascular health, I disagree that that opinion is worth $750, especially to a student who was forced into one specific low-coverage health insurance plan who also has no disposable income. My recommendation to any patient seeking services is to ask Columbia Heart Clinic to run your bills AS IF you had received services to know what your out-of-pocket expenses would be. Had I been presented with the information beforehand that my appointments would cost me $750, I would have declined and reported back to my primary care provider. I suppose my grief is not necessarily with Columbia Heart Clinic itself, but rather with the health insurance industry and the American healthcare system in general. You can't be an informed consumer when the prices of services are unknown until after the services are rendered, and after you are contractually obligated to pay them. I find it ironic that it was recommended to watch my blood pressure and stress levels. I was forced to cancel my follow-up appointment because I simply cannot afford to see Dr. Holliday. In lieu of receiving regular cardiology care, my only option now is to see a non-specialist primary care provider, try to live a heart-healthy life, and hope for the best. Going without specialized cardiology services could potentially lead to having to access more costly emergency services if any potential cardiac problem rises to a level of acuity. This is one example of how and why the American healthcare system is so costly with poor outcomes. Certainly this problem goes far beyond Columbia Heart Clinic, but my experiences there make it appear that they're also doing nothing to help it.

I have been a patient of Columbia Heart and Dr. Gopi Shah for over fourteen years and have always been treated with respect and have been provided with outstanding medical care by both Dr. Shah and the support staff of nurses, medical technicians and administrative support personnel.
