Patient
I traveled from Indonesia to Portland to see my EP cardiologist, Dr. Stecker, because I had been diagnosed with tricuspid valve problems and congestive heart failure. I was coming from a third world country and had lived there for 4 years, but Dr. Stecker was my US doctor of record. I needed tests done to evaluate the extent of my problem. I was refused contact with Dr. Stecker. I was refused an appt. I was told that OHSU did not accept cash payment (the only way one pays in Indonesia) I had the money, but I was refused an appt. So the $4000 I paid for airline tickets, and the exhaustion of the trip were all for nothing. I guess being a cash-paying patient is not allowed. I had to return to Indonesia for third-world treatment. I did not realize that being a US citizen had slipped to such a new low. I can only assume that corporate medicine now rules and the Hippocratic oath is worth nothing.
