Board certified in thoracic surgery, Dr. Howell graduated with a degree in biology from the University of Texas at Arlington before earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He completed general surgery and thoracic surgery training at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center after which he served three years as assistant professor in thoracic surgery. Additionally, during residency, he completed a research fellowship at the National Heart and Lung Institute in London, UK. He has served in the past as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, earning the Air Force Meritorious Achievement Medal. Dr. Eric Howell performed a lobectomy on my upper left lung on March 6th, 2025. He used the Robotic Assisted technique. This procedure caused minimal invasion and led to a quicker discharge on March 12th, 2025. I was in ICU
for 2 days before moving to a regular room. He came and checked on me daily while noting my progress. I had complete confidence in Dr. Howell as he had performed lung cancer surgery on my wife in October of 2015. The fact that she's still here is a testament to his obvious skill. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing lung or heart surgery as he is top notch in my book. No one wants to be ill, but given the advent of medical technology, if you have to be ill....you couldn't have picked a better time. As far as my Cancer is concerned, the pathology report indicates that they got it ALL.
