Dr Sweeney was my mom's doctor and he was wonderful. Couldn't have asked for a better doctor. She died in 2010. My husband. Daughter and I started seeing him. We changed doctors after we went to him years later and he started screaming at us and yelling. Turned red in his face. He needs to go to anger management classes or get a checkup himself to see why he gets angry when it is not warranted. We will never go back to him. My husband thought he was dying and dr Sweeney yelled at us , his family, for asking a question. Started swinging his arms and yelling. I'm surprised ccmh had continued to let him practice there. He should retire and get a checkup himself.

My late father, John Thurmond, had quadruple bypass surgery at CCMH nearly three years ago. He spent a few days in CCU, as expected, and was transferred to the post op where he spent two weeks laying in bed! Only upon my persistence did they finally get him up and moving two days before his transfer to a rehab center in Altus. I was livid! The goal was to get my dad more mobile so he could admitted into CCMH rehab and stay closer to his cardiologist, not 70 miles away! Sure enough, my father wasn't at the rehab center three days before he started developing symptoms of cardiac failure and through pulmonary emboli. I called Dr. Swenseny's office and left a detailed message, but never got a response! My father passed on Christmas morning. My mom, who had end stage dementia, mourned herself to death and we laid her beside him three months later. I worked in the medical field as a registered nurse (and yes, I worked at CCMH) for seventeen years, and this lack of communication and dedication to the patients wellbeing is unacceptable! I fully understand care planning, your requirements for admitting a patient into rehab (I sat on that on board as a CRRN), but I don't understand the lack of physical therapy on your post op floors! Aren't high risk patients, "post cardiac surgery", considered one of these?
Let's list a few problems
Falls
Blood clots
Kidney failure
Poor cardiac output
Bed sores
Decreased Respiratory Function
Pneumonia
Higher Risk for Morbidity!
My father had bed sores, poor pulmonary function, was very weak and they'd just removed his last chest tube (which was still draining 100ml of blood tinged fluid daily) an hour before he was charged!
The facility he was admitted to in Altus wasn't equipped to handle cardiac patients at all!
Guess what I'm saying is, "I lost my best friend due to your negligence and staff, and I hope this message wakes up CCMH to do a better job!"

I'm giving a 4 for the Dr only. My husband has been his patient for a few years. We have no complaints with his treatment, bedside manner etc., but the epic fail comes with his office staff. Recently Dr Sweeney placed 3 stents in my husband and prescribed Brilinta. The price is ridiculous with insurance- 487.00 for a month, plus the absolutely miserable side effects of nausea, dizziness and itching. Every day for one week he called for his nurse to try in vain to request an alternative to Brilinta. Not a word in return. I'm not satisfied in the least with this lack of care on behalf of his staff.

Dr Sweeney is a very good doctor, but his nurse is a different story. After having a medical emergency and told to follow up with the cardiologist , the nurse was extremely rude, refused to try working me in, and told me to wait until January or my scheduled February appointment. Basically told me I was stupid for not going to the emergency room after being visited by first responders who put that decision in my hands during an emergency situation.

This doctor is mean to not only to staff but to patients as well. He should've retired at least a decade ago. His bedside manner just keeps getting worse. I switched to Dr. Ayirala instead. He definitely has a reputation for being a great doctor, however he also has a reputation for yelling at patients and staff through out the hospital, making patients cry, and generally being an unpleasant person. I would recommend any other doctor at Heart & Vascular except him.
