WakeMed Heart & Vascular - Structural Heart

I was admitted to WakeMed Hospital on Jan 3, 2023. I had Aortic Valve Replacement performed by Dr Boulton. First off let me say he is one talented Dr. Not only was the first appointment comfortable, but his bedside manner was impressive. My family was briefed by him and was told how things were going periodically. I felt like I was treated like I was important. His entire staff is professional and extremely caring. I was told what to expect and Dr Boulton and members of his team checked on me daily while I was in the ICU and hospital. There are so many people I would like to thank. Christina Bull, PA, went way beyond the call of duty!! Morentz, PA, extremely kind and professional All of the following are truly appreciated for many reasons: Valencia, Nurse Devin, Nurse Drew, Nurse Shannon, Nurse Sara, Nurse Brittany, Nurse Molly, Nurse Margaret, Nurse Jessica, Nurse Tara, Nurse I was admitted to the hospital emergency room on Tuesday 24 Jan, 2023. The following nurses really did a great job as well. The whole WakeMed Family has my gratitude. Carla, Nurse Christian, Nurse Megan, Nurse Carrie, Nurse Lucien, Nurse I highly recommend this hospital if you have any heart related issues.

Getting a diagnosis resulting from request for clearance for an unrelated surgery resulted in a diagnosis of narrowing of aortic valve in severe range. Total shock for me as I stressed my heart all my life and never did occur to me that I had a heart issue. Now, just like that, I needed a valve replacement. This started me on a journey through what seemed like every department at WakeMed Heart. From diagnosis to my release from the hospital, my journey was seamless. I knew from day one I was in the right hands. I was provided a case manager who was there at every test to after my return home. The teamwork I experienced was nothing short of amazing. Everyone from doctors to those moving me from place to place treated me like I was important to them. In the operating room, many hands were flying, each one knowing exactly when and where they were needed while friendly chatter among them, very reassuring to a nervous patient. This happened everywhere I was taken. The staff members listened to each other and seemed always willing to help each other out...and they do this every day. It is with a grateful heart that I thank them for giving me an extension to my life and making the road to recovery so positive. Ruth Pearce

I am truly concerned with what I've witnessed at wake med today. My mother had vascular surgery. She is in recovery in very close proximity to another patient with no mask nor curtain for privacy or protection from this pandemic ! There is no social distancing in this hospital. The cafeteria is packed and a dozen nurses got on one elevator! In the critical surgery waiting area the receptionist wasn't even wearing her mask properly. It was on her neck full face unprotected!! Unbelievable

worst ER anywhere. Rude front desk...I have no idea about the care itself, I left after 6 hours in the waiting room (with chest pains) and went to Rex. My family has instructions, if Wake is on the way, please let me die enroute to Rex...at least I know they will see me there.

Spent two weeks at this hospital, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good at the same time. I left healthy and are grateful for that but with God's grace will never want to go back.
