Dr. Bob Sommer trained in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology, and started the first Pediatric Interventional Catheterization Laboratory in New York City in 1991, and has been Board Certified in Pediatric Cardiology since 1991. In 1999, Dr. Sommer redirected his focus to the adult patient with Congenital Heart Disease, first by starting his own practice to care for this underserved population, then joining the faculty of Columbia University Medical Center in 2005. In 2017, Dr. Sommer was Board Certified in the new ABIM sub-specialty of Adult Congenital Heart Disease. Dr.

Dr. Sommer is the best Dr we have ever met. Not only did he educate us on my dad's diagnosis and procedure, he was extremely flexible and accommodating with getting him in. He is very caring and welcoming and detailed in explaining every question you have before you even ask them . He makes you feel seen and heard and doesn't disregard . Very honest . I'm glad I was referred here . He makes sure you leave with a understanding of everything and notes of everything you've spoken about . And Barbara is excellent they are the perfect duo and she is also very welcoming and detailed and they make sure as a whole they understand everything about you before coming in and coming up with a solution . I can't thank them enough for making me feel secure and just content with my situation . Thank you guys I would recommend them 1000 times .
Dr. Sommer is outstanding, and I wouldn't want anyone else to work on my heart. During the consultation, he was a great educator and meticulously explained (with diagrams!) my procedure, sharing excellent studies and evidence that support the effectiveness of the procedure. Nurse Barbara Robbins and Dr. Sommer are a phenomenal team, and I feel confident about my procedure.
