Have been here 3 times in 6 months. I am reviewing my visits separately due to different experiences. The first experience was amazing, the second was good with an amazing woman who did my sonogram. I'm sorry I don't remember her name but I could have them check. She should be acknowledged for her outstanding care, concern and empathy. The third visit/experience which was a few days ago was horrid. Going back tonight and will update that visit tomorrow. I am 44 years old & severely anemic due to uterine fibroids. The first time I was here my hematologist sent me here after seeing my iron levels were at a 6.7. My experience that day was amazing aside from having to wait an hour and a half for blood results 2 times but not their fault, I'm not the only patient. I don't think someone should be getting a blood transfusion In the hall but if no rooms are available what can you do. I think my nurse's name was Sam or Stan {sorry}, a young Filipino man. He was exceptional, explained everything thoroughly and checked on me often. Even being discharged was done quickly. Every test and X-ray that could taken was done. They left no stone unturned and I left with answers and a solution {at that time}. I was contacted 2 days later asking if I needed help finding a doctor and set me up with a doctor's office that called me after a few days to set up an appointment. They also checked to make sure they took my insurance prior to my appointment. Everything was done efficiently and effectively from start to finish. Even the transporters were kind. I was seen right away and was there for 6 hours in total. Most of the time was waiting for results to come back. Everyone there was pleasant, a student nurse passing in the hall even checked on me and got me a pillow and sheet. Pleasant experience and experienced crew for my first emergency room visit.

My husband was admitted for chest pains, and LYMPHODEM, at Seawive hospital The Doctor in the emergency room was excellent. My husband was transferred to a holding room then finally they gave him a room on the 3rd Floor. As soon as I told them I contacted Adn, to have permission to stay with my husband. Ms. Gloria, the nursing manager told me I couldn't stay. They where discussing about my wife lymphhodem legs that are both wrapped used it as a crutch saying she can't stay and discriminated her rights and my rights as a patient ( the legal rigths). Who would take care of her. She take cares of herself. My roommate gave me permission for my wife to stay. That was one of there steps to be approved by the nursing manager. Then they put my husband in a position which he had to go too another hospital for care. He never refused the medical care and they were forcing him to sign paperwork that he refused their care which he wasn't receiving properly. Then they called security and told them under no circumstances that my wife could stay with me and would have to leave at 9:30 pm. They actually bought out a team of people from security to remove my wife. The nursing manager said I have to go home in a cab, in the meantime other people are staying with their patients. So I walked out of the hospital with my wife and refused to sign any documents. These people are unprofessional, they are on a power syndrome. A patient should feel comfortable, happy due to the situation when they are admitted. Be careful when they give you the meds. They push psych meds to relieve your pain, Don't take not even one. They also, use the patient, as a ,"Cash Cow", they don't take care of the cure. This hospital needs to be revamped. Put in professional hands, and nursing manager to have empathy towards the family and patients wishes. The nursing managers needs training a great deal. My age 66 years old and my wife age 67. Fine other hospitals to go too. NYU, the tops. UPDATE: Went to the other hospital my husband was completely dehydrated and he was having serve headaches because they couldn't figure out the problem. My husband roommate face was swollen and the doctor ordered antibiotics for the patient and a Dr. from dentistry comes and tells him your face is not swollen and you could make appointment outside. Your leaving tomorrow. Taking the patients insurance and not treating the patient with proper care. Also, they had many falls in that hospital, because when a patient is ringing they are laughing and ignoring the buzzer at the nursing station. Administration needs to buckle down on these nursing managers. You do havean outstanding nursing managers in the Tele- Heart section ( on the third floor). His name is Chris, very professional, knows how to speak with the patients and their families. The nurses who work with Chris, are outstanding. Also, some the staff and Doctors lack complacency, lack of communication, and their unprofessional in their interactions with patients.

I had a great experience at Staten Island University Hospital. I underwent an elective surgery (hip replacement), so my experience might be different than with other areas of the hospital. But everything was seamless for me. The pre-op testing was great, and the gentleman who took care of my vitals, blood, ekg was great, as was the radiologist who Xrayed my hip! I received all the information I needed for my procedure, watched the videos to make sure I was prepped for the surgery. On the day of the procedure, they got me in right away. I didn't even have to wait on an IV. Everything moved along quickly and smoothly. I always felt like I was in good hands. Of course my surgeon, Dr. Korshunov, is absolutely amazing (brilliant & a perfectionist, which is exactly what you want in a surgeon). And the entire OR team working with him was fantastic. They put me at ease! After the procedure, the recovery experience was great as well. People helped me and gave me lots of attention. I didn't have to flag down a nurse for water or crackers or anything. They constantly asked how I was doing and if I needed something. The food also was amazingly good, which is nice when you need energy to heal and get going. Also, the PT and the OT people were on time and very good. I wanted to be released same day, and they respected that and made it happen without any stress-was released earlier than I gad even hoped, which makes journey home so much less painful! (I had my other hip done years ago at another hospital, and was always waiting on things-like PT-so was stressed that wouldn't be released same day). Thank you, Staten Island University Hospital, for making my surgery a better experience than I anticipated.

I would give this minus 5 stars. Last night 11/14/25 I experienced the worst care and unprofessionalism I ever saw. I was with a relative on side 10 emergency room next to the nurses station and watched the nurse and staff disrespect an elderly patient and referring to her as crazy. The entire desk staff were laughing at the patient, looking at their cell phones and making other people like me hear them belittle and disrespect her. The entire staff had no respect and should be disciplined. Im glad my relative went home. I would never recommend anybody go to this emergency room unless they don't care about their life. This hospital has changed since I was there over 10 years ago. The elderly patient should file charges against the hospital and I would be her witness. God help anyone in this asylum.

My mother was admitted to Staten Island Hospital, and although she came out in one piece, her stay was far from easy or trustworthy. The lack of communication between staff, doctors, patients, and family members was absolutely unacceptable. It felt like no one reviewed her chart before entering the room, and information was never properly passed on during shift changes. Even when notes were left instructing staff to contact the family for any updates, tests, or changes to her care (as we hold power of attorney), those instructions were ignored. On multiple occasions, my mother was moved to a different room, sent for tests, and even nearly had a PICC line inserted -- all without the family being notified. I stayed by my mother's bedside from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, and it was clear that the moment I stepped out, staff would attempt to make changes without informing me. The cleanliness of the hospital was also very concerning. The floors were stained and worn, bathrooms were consistently filthy, and hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes were scarce -- raising serious concerns about infection control. The professionalism of the staff was another issue. Many appeared very young and untrained, openly gossiping about patients in the hallways. The medication administration process was laid back at best, which was troubling for patient safety. To make matters worse, upon discharge, I was never given a copy of my mother's paperwork. When I called medical records, no one returned my calls, and I had to make a separate trip back to the hospital just to obtain them. The only positive experience we had was with my mother's surgeon, who handled her procedure with precision, skill, and care. Unfortunately, that excellence was overshadowed by the hospital's failure in nearly every other aspect of care. In short: This hospital does not prioritize patients, does not communicate effectively, and does not maintain a clean or professional environment. Families should be cautious when trusting their loved ones to this facility.
