We saw Dr. Lau today for the first time and he is not the usual provider we see. My 10 month old has been sick the last couple of days with a cold and this morning developed a slight fever. I went to pm pediatrics this morning and they told me she had the flu and said the test wouldn't come back for a week. As a second opinion I called stony brook who are our usual doctors to see if we can get in today to see if she actually had the flu. The only appointment was with Dr. Lau, he came into the room and as I was trying to explain everything that was wrong he put up is finger to get me to stop speaking and started talking over me. I get the doctors record their interactions so they can go back and write the notes, but wouldn't you let the mother explain what she is experiencing with her child instead of stopping her mid sentence. I then started to tell him that we went to pm pediatrics in the morning and he proceeded to ask then why was I even there. I was there because me and my boyfriend were concerned that she had the flu as we were told at pm pediatrics and wouldn't get the results of the test for a week. Overall he has no bedside manner at all, I wasn't able to voice all my concerns because he is too busy recording and making sure he says what he has to say, but I am thankful that I did go there and get the rapid flu test as she was ultimately negative and pm pediatrics was wrong, that is why I ultimately went to the pediatrician after going to pm pediatrics to simply get a second opinion.

Dr Lau paid no attention to our concerns as parents: * his runny nose and congested breathing * his inguinal hernia which has become even more noticeable He said that his weight was not where it was supposed to be according to his chart. It always has been. He hasn't lost weight just he is gaining slowly. He said that he would recommend taking him to the pediatric ER and have his blood drawn and urine tested. We did so and the tests came back according to the doctors there in their own words "IMMACULATE!" However upon getting ready to leave we were told that our child had been already admitted and that we as his parents had no choice in the matter. We asked why he was being made to stay and they responded that they needed to do more testing. Don't get me wrong, nothing is more important than the health of my child, however, what bothers me the most about Dr. Lao is the fact that he miss lead us and admitted our child into the hospital without telling us. Further action was taken, including the police being present in order to escort us, Child protective services being called to further examine his environment at home and whether or not he was being properly fed and treated. When the team of doctors contacted Dr. Lau on the phone in front of my wife and me, dr. Lau straight up lied about what instructions he gave us at our sons pediatric appointment. The way my wife was treated as well as I and the extreme measures that were taken to prevent his parents from having any choice in the matter concerning our child, as well as the deceitful conversation with Dr. Lau and his care plan, the lack of supporting documentation on his end along with the hospital, and the whole 60 day investigation of whether or not we are fit to be adequate parents was extremely hurtful, unprofessional, morally disgusting, and most importantly dishonest. Don't be misled, Stony Brook Hospital is the best hospital I particularly know of. Their staff takes their job seriously are very knowledgeable and efficient and thorough. But regarding Dr. Lau he is uncaring, dishonest, and really not concerned about the important issues of your child's health. I gave him one star only because I wouldn't be able to write a review giving him none. As a very loving and caring parent, I strongly suggest that you do not use Dr. Lau as your child's pediatrician. Stony Brook, like I said, is a great hospital and their offices have great staff members and doctors but unfortunately Dr. Lau is not one of them. This is a true story.

Dr. Lau is Lau-zy. My wife and I took our newborn here for her first visit out of the hospital and neither of us felt comfortable enough to return again in the future. I was permitted to bring the baby in the room and then told I had to leave (even after showing a vaccine card and recent covid negative test) I had to bargain to be able to go in and at least talk to him while he was with my daughter. He spoke to us like a drill sergeant, was not engaging and didn't seem to care much at all. When asking about shots and vaccines he related it to 'taking out the garbage' and didn't explain anything else or provide insert information. I thought maybe it's just a case of rudeness or arrogance but after going to another pediatrician we realized how we should have felt going to the baby's doctor and the difference in treatment is nothing less than unprofessional. I wouldn't trust my child here even if she was sick.

★★★★★

Dr. LAU is amazing. My daughter has been going to him since birth. Wouldn't want any other Dr. In charge of my daughters health. He takes the time to make sure both parents are comfortable and knowledgeable about our childs health. Best part is Dr. Lau always puts our daughters health first.

Patient

Extremely rude and disrespectful. He's not a pleasant person to interact with at all. It's a shame it's only him at the Commack site. He really needs to get his attitude straight. Keep looking. Following up on the reply. I'm not sure why I should call this phone number. Unless you want to teach the doctor about bedside manner or how to not be condescending to parents that care about their child's needs, nothing else to be said.
