About 5 years ago, came to Dr Dempsey about (what I thought might be) a vein/blood flow problem in both legs; the left being worse than the right leg. Since I was not a professional, I wanted to get one (I thought) could give a valid professional assessment of the issue and how it could be resolved to relieve some of the pain. Dr Dempsey said it was a vein problem and he felt he'd have to see the main vein shut to relieve the vein issue since the vein had a darker color as I was getting older. I told him overtly, I did not want him to do anything (!) that wasn't fully covered by my Health Insurance (which always covers the full cost of any valid medical procedure). He agreed not to do anything that was not fully covered by my insurance; and further agreed to check with my insurance to get approval before he did any procedures. Until then, he recommended I wear a compression stocking since the insurance usually recommends this is done before allowing the procedure he recommended. He said this might not have to be tried, but said I should do this to justify this to the insurance company. After about a month he called me in for the surgical procedure. It was EXTREMELY PAINFUL (feeling as though I had very little to dull the pain) as I was awake for the entire surgical procedure he himself carried out on my leg. I
I later found out he hadn't gotten prior approval from my insurance company. The insurance company indicated they felt the procedure was not necessary; and the problem could have been handled in different ways. My insurance company has never refused to cover any other medical procedures (done even by doctors in Cornell Medical Hospital in NYC) before then and since then. But this didn't stop Dr Dempsey from seeking that I personally give him thousands of dollars for this unnecessary procedure. I complained to the NYS Office of Professions, giving NYS Officials the findings from the insurance company, copies of my communications and indicating I had a witness who was in the room listening to all my discussions with the doctor. It was only after that did the doctor's office cease asking me for thousands for this unnecessary procedure.
Worse than going through an unnecessary painful surgical procedure (with little if any anesthesia) is the fact that my leg has constantly given me far more physical problems since that procedure!!! It's weaker. The veins are more pronounced and darker on that leg than they were before the procedure. BlAnd now, any slight skin cut (if I mistakenly hit my ankle against a piece of furniture) just won't properly heal!!! The other leg that didn't undergo this unnecessary procedure doesn't have the same problems; the same slight cuts to the ankle (I've gotten) on that other leg readily heal with no problem whatsoever. Essentially, this man did me an extreme disservice as he tried to use this unnecessary procedure to procure thousands of dollars! Though he didn't ultimately get any money, I now have to live with problems on that leg.
DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR if you truly value your health. I would recommend doctors in NYC; who really do a good and professional job, and my insurance always fully covers their work

I am sorry to see some negative reports for Dr. Baran. I have been seeing him for many years and have no bad experience with him. He explains clearly and does not seem to rush as busy as he is. I highly recommend him and his office staff very respectful. and kind. My only sadness is that he is so good it's getting harder to get an appointment however his PA are just as helpful and if they feel he needs to see a problem the office would get you into see him for any problems that show up in testing.

I'm a new patient, new to the area and waited 1-2 months for my appointment. I live 30 minutes away and had to travel 45+ minutes, impacted by summer traffic I'm unfamiliar with, just to have to reschedule another 1-2 months because I was 6 minutes late to my appointment. No excuses at this place! My 2 stars are for the women at the front desk for accommodating me as best they could. I will be canceling this new appointment and not be returning as this place appears to treat new patients poorly, without even giving a chance. Who would have thought a cardiologist would lack a heart? None of my doctors in NYC have ever treated me like this, and people are constantly late due to the subway system. I'd rather take Amtrak back to the city than deal with this place again.

Moved back to NY. after away for 10 years.
Was able to get in to this location with Dr. Stephen Dempsey, for surgery clearance.
After meeting with Dr. Dempsey, I decided to keep him as my cardiologist.
A doctor who listens and speaks to you in understanding terms and not over your head.

Absolutely the worst and most unprofessional medical office I have ever been too. They schedule extra appointments just to charge more copays and your insurance and do not offer much help with scheduling. I went in for a vein issue where a varicose vein was becoming very enlarged and painful. MY first visit was a 5 minute consultation in which I had to wait over a hour in the waiting room. My 2nd visit for my ultra sound involved me waiting over 2 hours in the waiting room, then a hour in the doctor room waiting, then finally an ultrasound that took over a hour, i was at their office for over 4 hours. Then over the next 3 months I attempted to schedule my surgery with no assistance from Dr Dempsey or his nurses and to the point where I was calling every other day attempting to get someone on the phone to schedule my surgery. Then FINALLY the day of my first surgery, which I had received a text message 3 days prior asking to confim my appointment, which I did, then the day of, I Received a phone call from "Danielle" who was the nurse, who started the conversation off "Your insurance isnt responding and I have been trying to get a hold of them and they are just not answering or responding, and said there isnt anything she can do unless I want to pay out of pocket for the surgery." I assured her my insurance was good and she said well they havent submitted paperwork, after a brief arguement and her blaming my insurance and even myself for having to cancel my surgery that day, she had no regard for the things I had to make happen in order to get the time off from work and to get a ride. She told me that I should call my insurance company. I called them only to find out that they had 20 documented dates of them trying to work with "Danielle" who was not responding and not submitting fax responses in a timely manner. My insurance said it was 100% the doctors office that they were waiting on but they had not received a fax back from Danielle. When I called back to tell them my insurance was good and that they can send over anything (also I called my insurance and spoke to someone instantly which makes it odd that Danielle claimed to have so much trouble getting in contact with), that is when Danielle was no longer available and a kind lady in the scheduling department told me that she had cancelled my appointment. She then cancelled my 2nd appointment all while not telling me, and then obviously went to her manager and pointed the blame on me when she was in fact extremely rude, arrogant, and inconsiderate to me the patient, who now has to go longer with this pain in my leg, all because of the attitude and disregard of one nurse. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND STAYING AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.... Especially Dr Dempseys office and team.
