About Dr. David C. Cheeran, MBBS, MD
Dr. David Cheeran is a cardiothoracic surgeon at the Sands-Constellation Heart Institute at Rochester Regional Health. A graduate of Jarwaharla Institute of Medicine, Dr. Cheeran completed medical school at the Jarwaharla Institute of Medicine and then his internship and residency at the Postgraduate Medical Institute of Medical Sciences in Pondicherry, India. He also completed residencies in General Surgery, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He completed his fellowship in Cardiovascular Surgery at the Texas Heart Institute. Dr. Cheeran is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He has been practicing as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Rochester General Hospital since 1987.

My dad, Theodore Machuga had a massive heart attack October 27th right on my birthday. He also had a GI bleed, an kidneys were shutting down. Rushed him to Rochester general hospital. Dr. Cheeran did triple bypass surgery on him last month. Dad had 3 clogged arteries. Surgery went very well. Got GI bleed also under control. Started kidney dialysis also on him. I had a heart attack on July 24, 2013, he was the only doctor that told my family that I had a chance, the rest all said no way could I survive. He did surgery on me, I had 5 by passes, they tried heparin for the blood thinner, we did not know that I was allergic to it, it caused blood clots to go to my intestines, in the next week or so I also had 4 stomach surgeries, in the following week. I was in ICCU for 3 months my daughter said, I literally had to learn to do many things all over, but if not for Dr Cheeran I do not believe I would still be here. It has been a very hard 2 years for me, but I am here and I would not hesitate to recommend him.

My life was hanging in the balance the evening of January 13, 2015 when I was brought to Rochester General Hospital with what was diagnosed there as an aortic dissection, meaning a tear in that primary artery. Dr. Cheeran repaired it and associated heart valve damage in a five-hour operation. Today I feel as good as new and will be forever grateful.
