I'm not sure how this hospital has an overall rating of 3.2, but that was not our experience! My sister & I had the unfortunate fate of ending up at Jamaica Hospital over the past weekend. We were traveling home from the Dominican Republic with a layover in NYC when my sister got food poisoning. We were taken to Jamaica & immediately upon entering I knew things would be challenging. The ER entryway was packed with gurneys, nurses, doctors, medics, etc. It was crowded & chaotic. One of my first impressions was a doctor & nurse yelling at a homeless person who had possibly overdosed. They threatened to "narcan" her because she "wouldn't tell them why she was there." I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially because the paramedics had been outstanding. My sister was admitted, & I was sent to the waiting room to "wait." We spend the next 5 hours there. The hospital has to be 50-60+ years old with no upgrades. Everything was dirty & out of date. The Waiting Room housed at least 5-6 homeless people, & who could blame them for wanting to get out of the cold? It was below 30 degrees outside. At one point, a homeless man came in & sat down in a wheelchair. He immediately asked for food, & a nurse, or LPN obliged him. She warned another associate that he would need to go to the bathroom so they gave him a urine collector device. Around thirty minutes later, I saw that he was urinating onto the floor from his chair. I told the nurse he was relieving himself, and she simply said, "Okay." However, she did nothing to correct the situation. About 30 minutes later, another person in the Waiting Room told the same nurse about the urination. She, again, did nothing to correct the problem. Not too much longer, a custodian entered, swept the floor, emptied the trash, arranged the chairs, but didn't clean up the urine. He did spray sanitizer around the area. It wasn't until 2+ hours later that he returned to mop up the mess. During this time, numerous people walked through the urine & tracked it around the Waiting Room. The nurses seemed unphased by this. Not sure if this means it happens on the daily or not. My sister had a very pleasant experience with a nurse named Michelle, however, we can't really think of much else positive to say about Jamaica Hospital. Obviously, there is a management problem.

My father on Dec. 4, 2025 suffered a stroke and was brought to this hospital by knowledgeable first responders. The doctors' and nurses' care was phenomenal. In fact, the entire team including the Social Worker was great. Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is the top hospital matching no other for Stroke Patients. Thank you so much.

I had a very disappointing experience in the NICU during my child's discharge. The nurse assigned to us left an hour before discharge without informing me, and I only learned she was gone after the shift change. When I asked for my child's discharge paperwork, I was told it wasn't in their system. The same nurse insisted she had already given it to me. I explained that I was in a rush to make a pediatrician appointment and asked if the documents could be faxed, but she was unwilling to assist. When I requested to speak with someone else, she refused. At that point, I hung up because I didn't want to keep arguing or waste more time.
Earlier, when I first called for help, the person who answered the phone was dismissive and handed the call to that same nurse. Overall, the situation was extremely frustrating and emotionally exhausting. Security also spoke to us in a way that felt unnecessarily threatening, which only added to the stress.
Because of this experience, I do not feel comfortable returning to this hospital and cannot recommend it at this time. I truly hope administration addresses these issues so other families do not go through similar difficulties during an already challenging time. To be fair, the Labor & Delivery team was amazing, the Lactation Consultant team was incredibly supportive, and several NICU nurses were wonderful as well unfortunately, a few negative interactions overshadowed the positive ones and left a lasting impression.

Wow this hospital is the worst hospital me and my family has ever experienced.
My 70 year old father came into the hospital at 10am and left the next day at 1am feeling the same way he came in. He was there for 15 hours and NO ONE tended to him for the first 4 hours until his son's called AND showed up to the hospital to get help for him. He was ignored and left isolated on a bed never even put into a room. If he had visitors the visitors can only stay 15 minutes before they are told to leave. It took 15 hours to get bloodwork and an iv and a cat scan. I got lucky and was able to speak to the doctor ONCE and that one time in 15 hours the doctor was so rude and told me that the symptoms that youre father is experiencing aren't emergency its for a primary care doctor but meanwhile my father hasn't eaten in 2 days because he cant keep down food and water and is having such bad stomach pain with a rash breaking out from his head down his neck and working its way down. And because the doctor didn't believe this to be an emergency he just left my father in the hallway for 15 hours and also told me to stop bothering him after only talking to him ONCE. If you truly love yourself and your family and friends DO NOT SEND THEM TO THIS HOSPITAL. If you or a loved one has to come to this hospital I suggest you tell your family you love them and what they truly mean to you because it will be up to you and only you if you make it through whatever emergency youre experiencing because this hospital WONT HELP YOU they will leave you in a hallway to FEND FOR YOURSELF.
Good luck everyone.

I had a great experience at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. My wife gave birth to our baby girl here and we stayed for three days. The entire staff--from nurses to doctors--was professional, kind, and supportive every step of the way. We felt well cared for and the conditions were clean and comfortable. We are truly grateful and highly recommend this hospital to other families.
