We had a truly wonderful experience At SOCH , thanks to the medical assistant ( Juleeanna S) who helped care for my special needs daughter. During an incredibly stressful time, she showed exceptional kindness, patience, and compassion. She was one step ahead and communicated with nurses, Dr., and Emt's , about Emily's love of Wicked and Hamilton. She talked to the transport team , so they were able to connect with my daughter , making sure they knew what helped keep her calm and comfortable. She continuously reassured my daughter and took the time to explain things using real life scenarios that helped her better understand what was happening, and helped her with coping skills, so we could get through the hard moments. Her thoughtfulness, advocacy, and genuine care made a overwhelming situation so much better for both me and my daughter . We are incredibly grateful for her compassion and professionalism. Juleeanna you will make exceptional nurse one day. follow those dreams.

The ambulance service they use failed to have proper equipment on their truck and as a result my son had to undergo more extensive measures to be ok than he should have needed in the first place. And now we are stuck with a huge bill because THEY didn't have the proper basic equipment onboard. The hospital used their own staff to do a review of the case -- isn't that a conflict of interest??? And shocking they found they did nothing wrong and we are stuck with a bill we cannot afford. The only good thing about this hospital are the nurses. Everyone else including the "customer care" dept are soulless greedy lackluster human beings.

Nurses are great here. The food is basic but hospital food is never very good. Shared patient rooms makes staying there horrible. Especially when the person you share a room with has to use a commode 5 feet from your bed or have a catheter reinserted. When the docs and nurses talk to your roommate you have to hear everything from the meds they take to the consistency of their poop. I get it , this is an old building but in 2025 sharing a room is terrible. And when visitors come at 7 am and keep you from sleeping. There's no shower in patient room. Shared showers for the whole unit , if they let you even use it. The staff talks about the patients and the nasty things they do. I feel like they admit just about everyone to make more money $$. Being one of the only hospitals in the area they do see a great number of people, so be prepared.

We unfortunately lost our father this past weekend at Southern Ocean Medical Center. The nurses on his floor were so kind and very attentive. The Hospice team was so responsive and helpful that it made the transition as peaceful and serene as possible. My family is forever grateful to the staff at Southern Ocean Medical Center.

My mother in law spent the past 8 months in and out of the hospital here for surgeries, chemotherapy and many other tests and treatments. I was there very often during that time. They have a a mixed bag of quality staff. Many of the nurses and aids are getting trained due to staffing shortages so the care was mixed. Her first stay in the hospital was so bad at first to the point where my wife and I both complained to patient services about how badly she was being taken care of, possibly by negligent staff or possibly due to the staffing shortage. However, our complaints were immediately addressed and her care was very good after that. Her subsequent hospital stays were much better and she was cared for well. The food is pretty bad but you don't go to the hospital for the cuisine. They are very good having coffee and tea readily available for visitors on every floor and since my mother in law loves hot Lipton tea, we were able to make it for her every time we visited and that made her much happier. The care and treatment she got in the infusion center was excellent. Almost all of the nurses were caring and on top of everything. All in all, I've seen both better and worse hospitals in my life, but to me the biggest advantage they have is being part of Hackensack Meridian. I have spoken to many doctors in recent years who hated being part of HMH and let their practices over it. But as a patient, the size and connectivity of the network made our entire experience dealing with our situation so much easier. We only used HMH doctors and facilities for our mother in law once we saw that every office and every staff member has immediate access to all of her charts, procedures, results, etc. They even stayed on top of making appointments for her. This was so much easier on us. Honestly, we recommend using Hackensack Meridian Health for anyone with a condition that requires multiple doctors, facilities, tests, treatments, and so on. The full integration of information is an absolute life saver.
