Terrible experience. Doctor doesn't seem to understand that there are other kinds of dysautonomia besides POTS. Was referred here with symptoms that clearly were not POTS, but did align with other autonomic dysfunction. Without seeing me or discussing my symptoms, the doctor ordered a tilt table test, which is for POTS. Of course it did not return a positive result. She looked in on me over an hour after the TTT, told me I didn't have POTS and that I had effectively wasted her time (despite only seeing her for 5 minutes). I knew prior to my visit I didn't have POTS, and tried to start a discussion about the relevant dysautonomia diagnoses for my symptoms, hoping to investigate them with an expert, but she said I should eat more salt (counter indicated for my symptoms) and then left. My GP ultimately found a competent dysautonomia specialist who understood my symptoms, which are partially cardiovascular and dangerous to be left unmanaged, and got me on the appropriate meds to manage them.

Absolutely horrible experience with caring about patients time. Had an 8 AM appointment - and completed the procedure efficiently , then waited over 2 hours for the doctor who never showed. She proceeded to call 30 minutes after we left and when I said how long we had waited, she had no empathy, simply stated "I was tied up, would you like me to go over your results or not."
Would highly recommend if you have the option of seeing another doctor, and you value your time, look elsewhere.

The only good I have found from the "Dysautonomia and Syncope" clinic is their ability to get you back at your appointment time. I have gone to Duke twice seeking answers for my inappropriate sinus tachycardia and postural orthastatic tachycardia syndrome. I think my local doctors know much more and are more equipped to handle all the symptoms I have than Duke is. Dysautonomia encompasses the entire body...headaches, stomach upset, fainting, nausea, blood pooling in the abdomen and SO much more. Apparently the aim at Duke is to slow the heart rate down...which would be nice if it didn't make me feel even worse. I have tried 7 different medications for such, none of which worked or I had adverse reactions to. There are many other issues that come along with IST and POTS besides tachycardia. I was not treated for ANY of them, and no tests were done to determine what I may have going on. After all, you can't fix something if you don't know what the problem is! Every time I would message the NP I saw, Diana Harris, I would get the same response... "Drink water and exercise" or "Call you primary care about that". I came to Duke hoping they could put the puzzle pieces together to give me some relief from daily struggles and to find out how all the syndromes and illnesses fit together. If the underlying causes can be treated, maybe I could get somewhat better. The search continues for another doctor who will look at the "big picture", not just the cardiology part of POTS. It's SO much more than tachycardia.

Disrespectful, impatient, rude and severely racist! I'm an elderly lady and was so disrespected by her I left the appointment in tears and then was treated like I was the one who was in the wrong. When she allowed the situation to be created by her staff.
