About Dr. Richard James Keating, MD

I think being a doctor is more of a calling than a job. I think it's something especially at a place like Mercy where being able to live your values in a way that helps people is unique. You get to see people in a vulnerable state, be helpful to them, and you get to maintain that relationship with them even after they're out of the hospital and past their acute problem which I find particularly rewarding.

Nurses and staff were extremely kind and welcoming. But, my cardiologist? Not so much. My heart rate has been going up to 180bpm just walking from my bed to the bathroom. Keating knew this and originally said "it's because you're young and healthy". I have never heard a doctor telling a 20yr girl that her constant extreme heart rate, fatigue, and fainting spells were because they were healthy. This is not normal and I have many other doctors trying to help me out now. After my boyfriend bombarded him with questions, he eventually decided to run an Echo and Stress test. Echo was fine, which makes sense because it's just measuring the heart. But, in the stress test, my heart rate was around 200bpm (my max heart rate) just from walking normally for 4 minutes. Instead of saying, "yeah this isn't normal, let's run some more tests", he didn't even call me, just put a 2 sentence explanation on MyMercy saying that I was fine. All I know is that this is completely abnormal for a doctor to screw someone over this way. I'm seeing a new cardiologist that has explained to me that my heart rate is a serious issue.

LOVE Dr. Keating! He is always kind, listens to you, and I don't feel rushed during my appointments. He truly cares about his patients. I've been going to him for two years, and he took great care of me before and after I had heart valve repair surgery at Mercy hospital. Smart and kind....this is exactly what I want in a doctor :-)

I had an appointment today with Dr. Keating. The front desk staff was friendly. The medical assistant that brought me back was also so nice. Dr. Keating was very nice and polite. We both asked and answered one another's questions with plenty of time. Never did I feel rushed. Dr. Keating was very professional and had great bedside manner.
