My mother was on the 8th floor ICU and the experience my father and I had was very horrible. Things I remember include my mother having a heart attack and holding her chest while several doctors standing around looking dumbfounded at the situation and later was told she had a heart attack. Was informed the equipment are tested constantly and when I told the nurses that she was having difficulties breathing. They informed us that the monitors say otherwise while my dad and I watched her struggling and then was told we were feeding off of my moms panic attacks by a nurse that was present. Shows they go off the machines moreso than the patients issues. The order for an O2 machine took awhile to get to her and when the respiratory therapist arrived, she was moving slowly and having a personal conversation with the nurse and laughing while my mom was laying there struggling for air. Only to see that the O2 machine was defective after being told equipment is checked constantly. One of the Docs told my dad and I that we took up 15 minutes of his time while we were asking questions about my mom and that he had other patients to see. One of the nurses informed us she could do much more for my mom but she was given instructions to where she was limited and could not do anything further. What kind of care is that? So when we asked about life support we was told she is on life support that all the equipment on her is what is keeping her alive. Then she went code blue. She had a balloon pump in her and we weren't given an option whether we wanted to leave it in her or not. Was told it was coming out in 24hrs after being told a slight improvement was seen. When I asked if she was to get worse, can it go back in? Was told absolutely not. Needless to say, my mom died less than 24 hours after it being taken out. I consider after all this being said, a lot of negligence was involved in my moms care. Before my mom passed a chaplain was sent to pray for my mom while she was alive. The chaplain prayed her right on in to Heaven as my mom again was still alive. Yes, we wanted her to go to Heaven but didnt want her to die. Seems as if they were in a hurry for her to die so they could make room for another patient. No compassion. Then only to see another patient go into code blue just seconds after mom did down the hall. After all, it's just a job and then the staff goes home with plenty of money while during this time celebrating the holidays with their families. While we are grieving and missing mom because of negligence from the staff at Barnes for our holidays. The service we received that day will definitely not be forgotten. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Dr. Bach and family.
