My mother was a dialysis patient who needed heart valve surgery. Her first doctor told her the truth: her chance of surviving was about 20%. That was devastating to hear, but at least it was honest. Wanting hope, she sought a second opinion from Dr. Joshua Baker at Missouri Baptist. Dr. Baker told her she had only a 1% risk of complications, that she looked healthy enough to survive. He contradicted the other doctor completely, and my mother believed him. She trusted him with her life. She went into that surgery with false reassurance and never came home. Families like mine deserve the truth so we can make informed choices. Instead, my mother was given false hope. The way this was handled cost me my mom and left me with trauma I carry every single day.

Dr. Baker really fought for my mom while she was at MoBap in October and November 2024. He knew something was wrong with her heart and fought for testing to be done to find out what was going on. After her heart cath, he took a few days but then schedule her to have a stint placed in one of her valves to help her. When she didn't improve after the stint he ordered a test and found out the stint collapsed. He immediately spoke to my dad and performed open heart surgery to fix what needed to be fixed. He stayed around the hospital all weekend checking on my mom. He proved to my dad and I that he truly cares about his patients. Sadly 2 weeks after her open heart surgery my mom passed away while still in the cardiac icu. Even though she passed I believe Dr. Baker did everything he could to save her life, but her heart and other health issues were too much and she could not survive them. I would highly recommend Dr. Baker for anyone who needs surgery on their heart because he will fight for you or your family member and do everything he can to get them better. He is also very knowledgeable and answered every question my mom, dad, and I had for him.

Dr. Baker performed a Ross procedure on my husband to replace his aortic valve (born with it bicuspid, was monocuspid at the time of the valve replacement). He also fixed his ascending aorta aneurysm. Dr. Baker and his entire staff are excellent to work with, he performed a very complicated repair on my husband's heart and we couldn't be more thankful for his skills and knowledge. He is the only choice for the best of the best in cardio-thoracic surgery!

I owe my life to Dr Baker it's been 2 years now since he replaced a large section of aorta that was anything short of rotten. Dr Baker stayed with the procedure for many hours over two days I'm sure he remembers me.Dr Baker is the best surgeon in his field without a doubt.Thanks to him I have many bonus years still to live.
