He then earned his medical degree at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, followed by his residency in medicine at the University of Tennessee, while also doing graduate studies in the electrical engineering department at Memphis State University. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences, followed by a fellowship in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. He then completed a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
