A huge thank you to C.N.P Amy Newman and nurse Heather in the ObGyn department! I needed a new practitioner and Amy was amazing. She listened to my concerns and had a depth of knowledge regarding women's health that was so refreshing to hear. Heather was also so kind and supportive. Everyone from the front desk to scheduling was helpful and positive. Thank you so much for a good experience at a stressful time.

I was really nervous about coming here since I had lived my whole adult life in another state, going to the same clinic & hospital. But I was very happy with the experience and the people I met that made the process very painless and stress-free.

New to city so made appointment for a check up with blood work and prescription refill. Get to appointment, no tests scheduled, doctor and nurse can't find medical records I had sent two months prior. I get sent home after barely a check up for 2 months until records are sent. I send email with what records I had readily available to find they had my records the entire time. Then they start suggesting medical appointments for things I don't need, never bothering to actually read my records (told I needed a Pap smear when I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago or need a mammogram even tho I just had one). Now I'm being charged $400 for a nothing appointment, forced to wait 2 months for no reason cuz medical staff can't navigate their own systems. If they can't read simple medical history, how can they possibly care for my health?!

If I could give zero stars for my daughter's recent Albert Lea ER visit, I would.
My 5 yo daughter was in the Austin ER on Saturday (4 days ago) for extreme pain (to the point she couldn't walk), joint swelling & bruising. She received good care there and we were told to return to the ER if new areas of concern popped up. A new area popped up on the same extremity, so we took her back to the ER on Monday, but in Albert Lea as it was closer. The provider there barely communicated with us, didn't seem to investigate into what could be going on, and gave me the sense that he didn't really care to find a diagnosis or that we should have even been in there. He did the same testing that was done in the Austin ER, even though he acted like it wasn't really necessary. I asked if it could be an autoimmune issue. He literally just shrugged and said i don't know. I brought up testing for HSP because it fit her recent history, her age, and her presenting symptoms and asked if they could run a UA to test for protein & blood. I was told by the provider that they don't test for / diagnose that in the ER. He said my daughter's PCP would have to do this.
He placed a wrap to her leg. We get discharged with instructions to follow up with PCP next day for further evaluation of symptoms.
As I'm getting my daughter in her car seat in the parking lot to leave the ER, I saw that her condition spread to her other extremity, and it was significant. This was missed in the ER because the provider never assessed anywhere else.
The provider never listened to her heart, felt around her stomach, inquired about her recent history or family medical history, assessed other joints/areas of her body/ROM, etc. (like they did in the Rochester ER next day).
We scheduled a follow-up ER visit with PCP on Tuesday (yesterday AM) per discharge instructions. PCP called me & recommended we go to Rochester ER instead as she was very concerned about my daughter's S/S. We go there, the Rochester provider reviewed the last 2 ER visits, came in & looked my daughter over. To my surprise, she said Millie has HSP & wanted to do a UA to check for protein & blood in her urine, which was positive for both. I felt SO relieved to finally have answers, but so angry at the same time that the provider refused to test for this the previous day & we had to make another ER trip for proper care.
The wrap the Albert Lea provider applied to my daughter's leg caused a severe rash. The Rochester provider confirmed that it was the friction from the wrap that caused her rash.
Sadly, I truly feel like he had no concern for my daughter & my own concerns were completely dismissed.
I didn't feel a real effort on his part to actual help her and am incredibly dissatisfied with the care (or lack thereof) my daughter received in the AL ER. The care we received in Austin was more thorough & overall better. The care we received in Rochester was 1,000% better.
My husband & I decided whenever possible, we will just make the drive further to Austin or Rochester ER for better care.
It's a dreadful feeling to have something so serious happening with your child, providers can't seem to figure out what is going on, & you feel like the provider doesn't care enough to investigate into it. He didn't even present ANY options he thought it could be & dismissed mine. He just brushed her off onto someone else. Everyone else though (Austin, PCP, Rochester) seemed to understand that what was going on with her is serious & treated it as such.
