I passed out on 10/3. I was hospitalized at McLaren Oakland. Upon discharge, I was instructed to follow up with Amy Oniell. If you suspect you have POTS Dysautonomia, Amy is not the cardiologist for you. Please do yourself a favor and find another cardiologist. Dr. Oniel let me suffer for 10 months, telling me I was fine. My HR was extremely low, 30's however my heart was in rhythm, so she said I was fine. I mentioned POTS / Dysautonomia MANY times to her, but I was dismissed every time. I kept a daily journal that I printed off every visit with her, AND I emailed her nurse daily. Crickets. Lightheaded, dizzy, HR issues, passing out on toilet, presyncope several times a day, unable to drive, unable to grocery shop, unable to be left alone, yet she said I was fine. I. AM. NOT. FINE. I finally went to Ascension Rochester, they immediately hospitalized me. I found a new cardiologist who listens out of Ascension Rochester. I never mentioned POTS / Dysautonomia to him while I was hospitalized, because I wanted to see what they said. After actually READING my journal, and seeing my stats, they all agreed POTS Dysautonomia. Just as I had suspected, but dismissed. DO NOT USE DOCTOR.
I have to agree with what I'm reading. When describing my symptoms I wasn't taken seriously. When asking for information on how to best move forward I was treated like that was inappropriate. I was basically told "Well I did my tests so I have nothing else to tell you. Go back to working out. You're repeating what? I'm struggling now. Just go work out". The same culture extends to the staff. When you need them to do something they don't want to do their attitude switches. If you keep it simple for them and don't expect what you need, they will be very helpful. Once you ask them something they don't want to hear, it becomes very clear they aren't there to help. Chris was excellent. He can't control everything but he tried to do what he could with the right attitude and intentions. Thanks Chris. Might have saved my life and given me what I needed to find a new doctor. Follow your gut people. You know when you're not being treated correctly. I hope this is constructive.
Her response after a cardiac arrest that the patient should not have survived was to drop every ball thrown her way. 10 weeks after the arrest the patient had another heart attack and ended up at St Joes and had the procedures they needed within one day (on a weekend). Would not recommended McClaren for cardiology at all. Note: even the Emergency Response does not recommend McClaren.
Doesn't feel like Dr O'Neil believes me when I explain what symptoms I'm experiencing. I've already got too much medical trauma to attempt a dr/patient relationship with a Dr that doubts my symptoms. I'm currently looking for another Dr, I suggest you do to.
