Patient
Laura Florez, the nurse managing my grandfather's Coumadin levels, has been very unprofessional. When I called to discuss concerns about his care since he has not been kept within the therapeutic range, she was disrespectful, repeatedly interrupted me, and spoke in a rude manner. She even tried to suggest I was yelling at her when in reality I was simply asking important questions about a very serious medication. She also initially denied ever speaking with me this past Monday because she had not written a note in the chart, but then acknowledged the conversation after I provided details she had forgotten. Failing to document important clinical decisions and giving conflicting instructions about his dosage, saying one thing on Monday and something different today, creates unnecessary risk for patients. There is a big difference between patient advocacy and disrespect, and I hope she can learn to recognize that so she can better support the patients who rely on her care. If she is experiencing burnout that prevents her from treating patients and families with respect, then perhaps it would be best for her to consider another role.
