I needed to leave a big thank you to every level of staff from the reception to triage, all the way to being seen by doctor and for emergency room wait time, i was taken immediately and got out in time to return home by bus, on a Saturday! In fact each time in the last few years when of necessity needed to go, they've always been excellent. When i saw the low rating for this excellent hospital and emergency room overall, i was shocked! This is absolutely not true; and i wonder if the ones leaving low marks come in with an attitude. (I have witnessed first hand some patients entering emergency room and their rude and arrogant behavior has shocked me!) Even if in excruciating pain, a little kindness wouldn't kill you as the old saying goes. So, this is my 2 cents to say this is one of the best hospitals and emergency room ever. I actually came here to get correct spelling of Dr. Kareem's first name to send a thank you note. Those taking the time to read the starred comments, please consider taking with a grain of salt the negative comments and consider all the aspects. In fact, don't go by the comments, just go to the hospital, get a beverage from their fine little shop as you walk in on the left and just sit and observe. I sure hope this helps those who genuinely are looking for a good hospital with excellent staff! P.S. i was at Holyoke ER on 10/11/25 if you need to verify and the little shop is as you enter the main hospital entrance, not ER. Thank you all at ER, every single one of you, including the kind and helpful female custodian.

Update- I waited 5 hours in the waiting room then I was chosen to pass the sacred doors put on a bed across from the nurses station waited another 3 hours never saw a Doctor, saw 2 PA's and was told after a ultrasound, X-rays, CT Scan. Why yes it seems you were right you do have a 4mil stone but it will pass on its own. This is my 4th stone I've been to the same hospital before for treatment that requires lithotripsy but your sending me home and your recommendation (drumroll) Tylenol or ibuprofen and a referral to see a urologist. Let me repeat- I never saw a Doctor! ER wait times are 4 hours or more. I came here with a kidney stone I've been waiting to be seen. I asked for something for pain and all they can give in waiting room is Tylenol or Motrin. I arrived at 2pm on a Tuesday and I'm still waiting at 6:02pm

As we walked in the ER with my son with a severe abdominal pain, the staff acted very quickly doing blood test, CT Scan and within 3 hours, he was in the operating room for his appendectomy. Dr Rambissoon and her team took very good care of my son!

I went to Holyoke Hospital ER bc I had sat at Wing for over 8 hrs after my PC sent me there to rule out a stroke or blood clot, after losing sight in my eye and was never seen. Upon arriving at Holyoke, and telling them my story, within minutes I was in triage, had bloodwork and was in a room. The Dr was in shortly after to get some info and examine me. I can't remember the last time I was treated so quickly , efficiently and with such a nice staff. They were very kind and attentive. Shortly after I was having scans. I would, and have highly recommend

The best thing I can say about this place is I didn't have to wait long. I went to the emergency department because I broke my leg. I knew I broke my leg because it was excruciating to walk on and I fell 7 feet. I WAS NEVER OFFERED A WHEELCHAIR. I had to hobble to x-ray and back to my curtain. I had to hobble to a CT scan and back to my curtain. They gave me crutches as they were kicking me out of the door. I never saw an actual doctor. I was told to call an orthopedic Doctor and was told that they would absolutely get me in right away to make sure I didn't need (which I should've had). The orthopedic doctor said the soonest they could get me in was two weeks. They gave me eight pain pills for a broken bone and told me to wait to take one until I was in excruciating pain. Every single healthcare provider will tell you not to wait till you're in excruciating pain before you take a pain pill. I get that we have an opioid epidemic but I am not an addict. I have no history of drug seeking. I was there on a Thursday. They could've found that out about me by calling anyone in my medical past. Nope. And for all that great service. They didn't bill me for a year. I could've used my health savings account for the year but nope. They told me their policy is that they have the right to wait 18 months to bill a patient. My personal policy of requiring them to bill me within three months was not honored. My personal policy of not paying them back within a year of my first Bill was not honored. Terrible medical care and terrible financial management. Next time, I will go to any other hospital.
