Patient Reviews

Patient

Gutshall was once a good practitioner. All good reviews are from 5+ years ago. However, post covid he and his staff are obviously unhappy and frustrated and it shows in their attitude and treatment of patients. After 20 years of being my doctor he suddenly cancelled an upcoming critical appointment and refused to treat me anymore. The only thing that preempted this was a request for a prescription refill that he refused to fill and I called him out on it. Another practitioner in the same location laughed and refilled ALL of my prescriptions for 2 years. I am actually grateful in retrospect as I have left all doctors at Mercy and found a fabulous, wonderful, experienced doctor with a fantastic staff and location through UMSJ. Happy to be gone.

Dr. Gutshall is our family doctor. We couldn't be more pleased with him! Great communication via MyChart. He goes above and beyond to be sure we are in the best of health. Also, we love the check-in kiosks, so convenient!

I will no longer have Mitchell gutshall as my PCP nor my wife, the reason is for that fact he accused my wife of drug seeking behavior for requesting a refill of a prescription from the ER, the only thing that seemed to calm her irregular heart palpitations and heart racing that sent her into panic attacks, he also referred her to a cardiologist despite the slew of cardiologist tests that were done at the ER which revealed a healthy heart and despite my wife explaining to him the theories the ER doctors had, he ignored all of it to send her to a cardiologist again and accuse her of seeking drugs. How do you say that to someone who you've seen for years and never once asked for drugs before, just answers and a way to feel better ,she just wanted the prescription until they could find the issue and correct it so she can still raise our daughter and work! I believe he does not actually listen to his patients and wants to just send you away out of his hair. He is lazy and a Google doctor, and doesn't pay attention to what is said to him. So either it's extreme arrogance or apathy, either way, I no longer have faith in his intellect or ability to help find out what is actually wrong. I find his actions regarding the health of my family despicable.

No stars. This doctor was "presumably" my brothers doctor. My brother went into the hospital on February 19, 2016 with a multitude of issues. He has yet to go home and still Dr. Gutshall has never returned any calls from the family or called the hospital to provide or get information on his patient. My brother nearly died and still no interest, concern or calls. Really?

gutshall has been terminated as my Primary Care Provider. I clicked on one star as you can't proceed without clicking on something. gutshall has been by PCP for approximately four years. After the first couple of encounters I have avoided him scrupulously except in the most extreme situations.. This is because of the degree of care and level of concern that has been exhibited. After a 40 year career in the health care industry which included thousands of interactions with physicians and their patient I know precisely of which I write. Today was one of those extreme situations and the last straw with gutshall. After suffering with some significant symptoms for a week which necessitated a visit to another physician and the Emergency Department I followed up on the ED discharge instructions and called my PCP's office for a follow up. I explained that I was still sick and gave all the details of last week's visit. I requested an urgent appointment and was told I could come in at 1:45. I had to come directly from work but arrived early. and upon checking in realized I did not have my updated payment card. My co-pay is $10.00. Surprisingly I was told she would have to check with gutshall because it was up to him whether or not he would see me. I was totally stunned when she came back and said that he would not. I told her to have him come out and tell me to my face that he would not see me. He would not. I could share so much more insight but, really, need I. If any professional care is provided it is done so selectively. Anyone that would entrust their health and that of their family here would be making a terrible mistake.
