His doctorate in medicine was obtained at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. His residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in cardiology were completed at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He won multiple awards during his training, such as being named Chief Resident during his internal medicine residency and Chief Fellow during his cardiology fellowship. He completed a fellowship in electrophysiology at Ochsner Medical Center in N.O.
