Becoming a cardiologist is my childhood dream come true. When I was 13, my mother had a massive heart attack at the age of 36. She very nearly died. We were very poor and lived in a remote community with limited access to healthcare. My mother's heart attack left her severely disabled and unable to return to work. Her illness came at a very formative time for me, and I learned so much about what patients and their families go through during a medical crisis. It also inspired me to be the type of physician my mother needed. Now, as a medical expert trained to work with the miraculous human body, I am in awe of the workings of the human heart. For me, caring for those struggling with their heart health is a labor of love.
