5 stars for the care I received over the Labor Day weekend, and many heartfelt thanks to all the doctors and nurses who worked with me. I had GI issues that were rapidly going downhill Saturday morning and I went to my local hospital (Ascension Via Christi) in Manhattan initially. They put me on IV, and got me into the CT scanner. The diagnosis and treatment stabilized me and made me feel much less anxious, while the IV meds began to work their magic and bring down my white cell count. But they didn't have a GI doctor on staff, so they arranged for my transport to Stormont Vail in Topeka for continued diagnosis and treatment. Stormont did additional blood tests and CT scan analysis, continued the IV, and their Hospitalist, GI Doctor, and Surgery Doctor agreed that I didn't need surgery - what a relief. After another day, my SBO blockage cleared and I got off the IV and was cleared to return home. I am so thankful to have been treated so well. So far, so good, three months later and I am working with a local GI doctor and my PCP as advised, with no lingering issues. The on-line reports from doctors were also excellent and helped me understand what happened. I have to say that the "MyChart" computer system Stormont Vail uses is very good. I was able to navigate the software and read the reports from all the doctors, as well as see my test results. All in all, I would rate my treatment as 5 stars. Thank you to all involved !

Great medical staff. Billing department either needs more training or help. As a single mother I have had to keep reapplying for financial assistance. I send everything in and then they keep sending me that nothing was received. There is no communication or staff who are filing my items correctly. It is affecting my wellbeing and being able to provide for my daughter on my own. Very upset with the lack of accountability on their part. I have sent everything in via email and on my chart and still nothing gets done. I don't live in the area any longer so this is the only way I can send information in.

I recently underwent a procedure and, despite initial concerns stemming from the low online review score of 2.5 stars, I was thoroughly impressed with the overall experience. The level of care provided by the nursing staff was exceptional, exceeding all expectations. From start to finish, the care was outstanding. I encourage prospective patients not to be deterred by negative reviews and to experience the high standard of personalized care offered. Need shout out the star players there that cared for me, (Gina) my nurse extraordinaire and (Jenn). You will be blessed with awesome care hands down.

Worst hospital experiences I have ever had. From the ER, to in-patient, to pain management and even PCP. My father had a stroke and I told them numerous times he had a UTI. He only has one kidney. The nurses dismissed me. Luckily, he was discharged and went to In-patient rehab. Unfortunately, Stormont missed the fact that he had a GI Bleed and had to be sent back to Stormont.
They are extremely unresponsive, uncompassionate, lacking empathy and have an excuse for everything.
I myself have a chronic illness. I was asked by an ER doctor what I wanted him to do for me. I guess I was under the impression that as a doctor, he would be compassionate and helpful.
Pain management is a joke. They just want to continue to poke holes in you and never get to the root of the problem.
PCP was lazy and unwilling to look outside the box. Kept pushing pills, but wouldn't communicate with my other providers. Missed the fact that my BP was uncontrolled, but no urgency to fix it. Took me two weeks with a new PCP to get it controlled.
They also will not listen to the patient. Imagine having a major surgery and no pain meds. When asked it's like you are a drug seeker. What happened to needing rest to recover? You can't rest when in pain.
I'd rather they brag on their website their compassion and solid reviews then the amount of money they have given back to the community. That's not what the community needs. If they can afford to give back to the community, they can afford to properly treat their patients and have a clean and up to date facility.
I will never go back to their facility. Oh, and wait until they never send you a statement but send you to collections. I have heard numerous stories about this. It's awful all the way around.
