Patient
There were many incidents that were inappropriate regarding mine and my child's treatment which could have ended in more than one hospital visit post discharge. First, I had preeclampsia to begin with. When I brought up seeing spots while in labor I was told by a nurse "don't say that because you will be taken away from baby to be put on magnesium". Mind you, I was induced because of my sky rocketing high blood pressure that has started 24-48 hours prior. Once the baby was born, I asked for a lactation consultant to come in again (she came once, immediately after feeding baby and stated she would return at a later time) to learn to use a breast pump and to be able to assess feeding to ensure my child was getting the necessary nutrients only to be told "she already left". My child was taken by Dr. Scott Multack and two nurses for a procedure, after which they were returned to an EMPTY room. I was in the bathroom, showering, and was not alerted the baby was returned, nor was my partner there to ensure nothing happened to my baby. He was alone, in the bassinet. Following this discovery my partner sought out the doctor who did this procedure and asked why he was left alone and what care instructions would be, to which the doctor responded "I don't know man, I have 2 daughters, you'll have to ask a nurse". Sounds like this man shouldn't be a doctor if 1. he can't be professional and 2. can't provide post procedure instructions for a procedure he conducted? Dr Multack also discharged me without any instructions, medications, nor any regard for my follow up with my OBGYN who delivered the baby. He also asked me why I would have a follow up with her 2 days post discharge.. Mind you, I had multiple stitches and couldn't sit because of the immense pain (turned out to be a hematoma the size of a golfball on my labia for which I never got any pain meds for), complained of severe headache which started from the time I was admitted and never dissipated through time of discharge. Upon being discharged I challenged this order because my OBGYN who had delivered my baby had given very through instructions while sewing me up, specifically stating I would need to be sent home with pain medication, blood pressure medication and a monitor for the blood pressure. The discharging doctor said he didn't see any of those and would go check and NEVER RETURNED. I brought this up to the discharge nurse who was baffled and stated that the doctor didn't give any specific discharge instructions. They did ensure that I received a teal wristband designated to signal a preeclampsia/eclampsia patient yet no one told me that besides a seizure, I had every other symptom of preclampsia since all my concerns were dismissed. 36 hours of feeling miserable after discharge I had my follow up with my OBGYN who was shocked when I told her what had transpired and how the discharging doctor neglected her direct orders of care, medication and discharge instructions. She (Dr. Dorne) not only showed me her discharge instructions sent to Dr. Multack, but also personally escorted me back to Hinsdale hospital to ensure I finally got the care I needed for my symptoms. Upon leaving, I still didn't get any pain medications for the golfball sized hematoma and popped stitches but at least my blood pressure was finally addressed and a prescription was sent to my pharmacy. Without these 3 nurses I would have given this hospital 0 stars and warned EVERY expecting family I know to stay clear of it. For such a known hospital it's an absolute shock that such characters or so called doctors are employed and trusted. Dr Multack is so focused on seeming like a cool, hip doctor yet he fails to make patients comfortable, send them home in good health nor provide proper instructions for care. Avoid this man like the plague or maybe find a hospital who will care a little bit more about the doctors they employ and taking preeclampsia/eclampsia symptoms seriously before a new mom has return with complications that could have been addressed before discharge.
