As an active 61yr old man, who had no serious medical problems, it was hard to accept that I was looking at open heart by-pass surgery to repair several of my arteries, that I learned, was severely blocked. After seeing my dad have his chest opened to repair a failing heart valve, in my early 20's. the thought of me going through this was, hard to accept. I had been advised by our trusted family doctor and my cardiologist, whom I trusted, to seek the help of Dr. Bonilla. Reluctantly and understandably I, with guidance from my nurse wife, seeked a second opinion from the University of Chicago, to see If I would be a candidate for their Robotic, Less Invasive by-pass Surgery. I would later learn that my condition was too severe and was not a candidate. When we arrived for our appointment at Dr. Bonillas' office, we were met by Pat, a very kind person, who was very helpful in getting the initial logistics in order. That first impression set the stage for the rest of our visits. I found Dr. Bonilla to be a kind, very knowledgeable and patient person. His ability to explain my condition and how he would go about repairing it, seemed calm and common place. I was immediately put a ease. I knew, I would be ok in his care. He was a former Triathlete and spoke of conditioning and wellness, which I also gravitated to. We would later meet his team. His PA Livia Lisboa and CNP Michael Grimm. They continued this feeling of calmness and knowledge, education and wellness. Which I found comforting. They would be there throughout preparation, in- surgery and after surgery. The faces I would see during recovery. A successful Surgery, that required repairing (5)Five, blocked arteries using vein grafts(CABG), was performed at Good Samaritan Hospital. Dr. Bonilla and the team were there throughout my 5 days at the hospital and remain supportive. I can say, based on the severity of my condition, that I was an emergency episode away from not being here today. Dr. Bonilla and his team performed a great surgery on me that will allow me to continue to live. I feel a blessing has been bestowed upon me. I'm writing this 2 weeks post surgery. I feel great and getting better. I'll continue to live, run/exercise, caress and appreciate this gift. Hopefully I will not travel this road again, but if I have to, I would seek the help of Dr. Bonilla. Forever, Grateful! Thank you! (HEART)!
