About Dr. CardioSound / Dr. H. Thomas Hight, III, M.D.
CardioSound is a Stroke and Heart Attack prevention center for high risk patients. Our RISK ASSESSMENT program helps patients answer the question "How much risk do I carry?" If risk is high, our FULL EVALUATION finds answers to the question "Why is my risk high?" or "What's causing my risk to be high?" Once the root causes of arterial inflammation are known, patients know the answer to the question "What to do about it?" Conventional care focuses on cholesterol, an important risk factor. But only one. In one study half of people with heart attacks had a normal cholesterol. Our program works because we identify and treat over 20 modify-able risk factors.

I have been working with Dr. Hight for approximately five years. I had head two surgeries on my carotid arteries. Even with that plus lifestyle the blockages were starting to build-up again.
My primary care physician referred me to Dr Hight. There have been a lot of ups and downs and trial and error . He seems more like a detective than a doctor and that I consider that to be a positive quality. I am aware that I can be a challenging patient because I am older and I don't just take advice or instruction from someone. ... I need to understand( at least to the best of my ability).
I don't know if he would agree but I think he has been one of the most patient doctors I have worked with in my 72 years. He also has honored my request that he explain things to me as if I am in kindergarten.
I have actually enjoyed our working together to correct this issue.
As of my last ultrasound the numbers in my arteries are continuing to improve.
It is a wonderful thing to feel hope.

Over five years ago I had a routine heart calcium scan. I was shocked to learn I had a very high calcium score. The widely held belief in medicine is that arterial plaque formation is progressive and irreversible. The standard treatment is a low fat diet, exercise, statins and wait for your first event. Waiting for a stent, bypass, heart attack, or stroke did not seem pro active to me. I looked for other options. After hearing Dr. Bradley Bale (author of "Beat the Heart Attack Gene") speak at a local meeting, I was excited to learn that these "events" are preventable and that arterial plaque formation can be stopped and often reversed. I decided to pursue this course of action. Dr. Bale referred me to Dr. Thomas Hight, whom he thought was the best physician in the Atlanta area to treat my problem. I joined Dr. Hight's practice in May, 2019 and after a thorough evaluation with five vessel ultrasound tests, standard blood tests, and genetic tests, I learned I had several genetic factors that were causing my plaques. In a nutshell, I have Familial Hyperlipidemia. It has been four years since I joined Dr. Hight's practice. In that time my blood pressure is low normal, my type II diabetes is well under control, and most importantly my plaque formation has stabilized. There has been no progression and in certain areas there has been some regression. Dr. Hight is a Board Certified Lipidologist who is an expert in this area. I am thoroughly satisfied with my experience with Dr. Hight. Atherosclerosis is an ongoing disease and needs constant aggressive medical therapy but it is not inevitable that it leads to heart attack or stroke. These outcomes can be prevented and in the Atlanta, Georgia area, Dr. Thomas Hight is the best doctor to prevent them.

A few years ago I discovered I had high blood pressure. I went to see a cardiologist who fortunately sent me for a CAC test. I had a high calcium score (plaque in my arteries) and the cardiologist prescribed a statin. I lost some weight and after several months went back to see the cardiologist. He told me as long as I took the statin I would be fine.
I didn't like this answer and that led me to Dr Hight.
Dr Hight listened to all my concerns and put a plan together with medication and lifestyle.
Several years have passed since our first meeting. My plaque progression has slowed due to Dr Hight's care.
Amazing doctor and I trust him with my health and life!

Dr. Hight has been my doctor for about 7 years. He has managed my lipids and weight and insulin resistant diabetes. My first visit he put me on blood pressure medication, which was extremely urgent. Over the years Dr. Hight would order an Ultrasound to examine the carotids and femorals. These were done in his office by technicians. Recently Dr. Hight ordered my third Ultrasound. They found something unusual. A small carotid body tumor. I was sent for an MRI and scheduled to see a Vascular Surgeon, all within one week! Dr. Hight's office staff is extremely efficient! I was examined with another Ultrasound in the Vascular Lab by Dr. Jones, at Kennestone Vascular Associates. Dr. Jones asked me who my physician was, and highly praised his expertise and prudence. When you hear a Vascular Surgeon say," Well, Dr. Hight is pretty good!" That means alot! As it turns out the tumor is very small and benign and they will follow-up in 6 months. Very high praise and kudos to the Ultrasound Technician who works with Dr. Hight in his office. The vascular associates were very impressed with their technique and diagnosis. I still have the tumor, but I have peace of mind knowing that any future events will be closely monitored by Dr. Hight. These carotid body tumors are very rare occurring one in 30,000. So, summing up, Dr. Hight is pretty good. No, he"s excellent! I am extremely thankful for the great care he has given me, and for a fabulous office staff.sincerely, Janis Salome
