Patient
I took my 87 year old mother to have a scan of her carotid artery as prescribed by her cardiologist. She is short of breath, suffers from leg pain and struggles getting ready to go out. Her appt was at 3:45. We were asked to arrive at 3:30. I called ahead while driving there to let them know we were running late and asked if they would still be able to see her. I was told that if we could be there by 3:45 she could be seen. We arrived at 3:48 at the front desk. The checkin clerk called out to my Mother and redirected her when she proceeded to the waiting room to sit down to rest after the walk in from the parking garage. I walked her back to the desk but had to wait while the clerk continued a friendly conversation with another woman about someone they both knew while we waited. When she finally finished her conversation, she turned to us and said they could not see her because we were so late. Granted we were a few minutes late but is there no compassion or care for the elderly anymore? My mother suffers with a lot of leg pain and shortness of breath. It is very difficult to get her to the doctor due to these conditions. I have been very worried about her and was so very disappointed that they gave no consideration to the fact that she is 87 years old and that she needed this scan. She now refuses to reschedule this much needed scan which was so hard to convince her to do anyway. We will not be back to Wellstar. I realize they have to stick to a schedule but turning her away because we were only a few minutes late is unacceptable
