My grandma is currently at this hospital and they're pretty much killing her. She's not eaten anything all day and all that's coming out of her mouth is fraught. They've inserted 3 stents in her heart, 3 blood transfusions and still no reason why her hemoglobin is dropping because they refused to do an endoscopy to see if there's any bleeding. Granted, my grandma is fully insured. The nurses are doing their best but the doctors, not so much. I'm not an American and I assumed wrong that the doctors in the US were great and honor their oath in saving lives, but boy was I wrong.

I know it's popular to slam UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital (The Villages Regional Hospital). But I recently had an emergency surgery and I must say that it was a wonderful experience!
I want to give huge kudos to Adam Santos of Santos Primary and Urgent Care. Adam treats every person with extra attention and always goes the extra mile. He called me after hours on his personal cellphone to inform me that I needed to report to the hospital immediately for emergency surgery. He then called ahead to the hospital to inform them of my situation. When I arrived, I was treated in as timely as possible fashion due to the volume of patients waiting to be seen. The staff was relaxed and friendly but very professional. Tech Hugo is a soccer player, and we got to tease each other about which one is "the real football."
My surgery was done by Dr. Mark Kent MD, and he did a wonderful job. Again, he was friendly and fun but very professional. Before and after my surgery, I was given top-notch care by the nursing staff and techs. I appreciate all of them, but, unfortunately, I'll miss a few. Nurse Stephanie took exceptional care of me during my stay. She was backed up by Kim and other members of an excellent nursing staff. Tech Megan was right there for me and gave me special care, as did the other Techs. During my discharge, I was given a complete overview of everything that I needed to do by the nursing staff and Dr. Irene Mayer. Instead of just signing my discharge papers, Dr. Mayer came to meet me personally and go over everything.
The long and short of it is that I received over the top care by people who treated me like a friend while maintaining the highest standards. There are extreme challenges that they often need to overcome at this hospital. From staffing issues due to the ebb and flow of residents in The Villages to attitudes of people, they always maintained a professional manner. I feel that I was truly blessed to have such great care!

I was admitted to US Health Spa ish Springs hospital the week of Dec 1 2025. I had severe sciatica and sepsis. Around 9:00pm I urinated the bed because the purewick device was not working correctly. 2 men entered the room to clean me up. I was intimated that no female entered the room with them. The male nurses on my left was verily abusive to me physically and mentally. I noticed the other male nurse was ignoring him and couldn't be done with the job fast enough. I had to take this bs because I was afraid. I will never go back to this hospital again.

I'm sad to write this review because the doctors, nurses and other staff at the hospital were great. I had my appendix removed and it was well taken care of. The 1 star review is towards the billing department. I wanted to set up a monthly payment and they requested a much higher minimum monthly payment than I can afford. I also was denied financial assistance. They refused to lower the bill or even work with me. I'd find another facility that offers flexibility on payments. Hope they feel good threatening to send people to collections.

The nurses were great. The Doctors not so much. They run in and out in less than a minute. Never truly able to explain why my lungs were so full of fluid. Just kept stating COPD and wanting to put me on CPAP which nearly suffocated me. I do believe I had RSV and didn't start to improve at all until they sent me home with antibiotics that were never given to me in the hospital and never explained what they were for. They wanted to blame it all on a chronic disorder for which I never was diagnosed with before and not address the acute issue of fluid in my lungs. I begged for chest percussion to loosen the mucous in my lungs which they would not do. I sat up most nights trying to cough up the phlegm that was literally drowning me.
