I had such an interesting, educational, fun time at SMH. I came in thru the emergency room at 0800 on July 16, 2025. Just back from my Sis's place in Brevard, NC. I could not breathe very well & I was exhausted & had been with with my Sis for the week. She noticed my "snuffing" that I had been doing for some months thinking it was sinus/allergies. No idea I couldn't breathe. Many tests later, it was determined my mitral valve collapsed/blew out. On June 21, Dr. Hoffberger performed emergency surgery for Mitral Valve repair. I met so very many Wonderful Docs, nurses, tech's, food servers, Transportation folks, etc. I have never met so many empathic healthcare individuals as I did at SMH and later at Encompass rehab. During this time at our home, my husbands 88 year old Gentlemen, brother Jerry passed in his room at our home on July 1, 2025. My husband, Jim, was with him when he passed in his sleep from terminal stomach cancer. He was blessed with no pain until the end when he had pain medication. Thank you all for making my stay a great experience in healing, education & love

I am a patient ar SMH right now! It is noisy and very difficult to sleep...I know that's hospitals in general but it's really bad here. When an IV isn't working right, a blasting noise goes off. Only the nurse can turn it off. I know, someone has to be summoned to correct this but it's 2026!! There are better ways to ping the nurse or nurses station without the blasting noise which wakes everyone 6 rooms away! Spend the money, and fix this. My other complaint is the lullaby playing whenever a baby is born... it's cute the first time.... but annoying after that. Come on, a mom who just gave birth doesn't notice in the hubbub anyway and surely there are less obnoxious ways to market that you do OB. It's already too noisy, cut the song. All in all, i can't wait to get out of here to get some sleep. They also seem short staffed as wait times for nurses to come are ridiculous. Someone could die before help comes to check out a call button! These lacks create a lack of trust overall. If you can't keep the noise down, does the surgeon know what he's doing? Are the instruments clean? I was a doc for 45 years; I never got sued or reported to the board because we treated people well from the get go. Get your systems improved SMH..... this things show an appalling indifference to patient care and a lack of sophistication. You'll also get sued less if you do these things better People get annoyed and will find a reason to sue you.... and your attending staff!! Spend the money to upgrade the patient experience.... or you'll pay in other ways with business going elsewhere or bad gossip you don't want or need

I had a wonderful experience at this maternity hospital! Everyone was kind, professional, and made me feel truly cared for. The staff took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure I felt comfortable throughout my stay. I truly felt I was in good hands. What touched my heart the most were the two amazing nurses -- Hannah Braun and Monique Csenteri. Their kindness, warmth, and genuine care made a huge difference. I'm so grateful for their compassion and the way they treated me -- not just as a patient, but as a person.

We had a phenomenal experience at SMH Labor & Delivery. I went in to Labor and Delivery several times during my pregnancy for fetal movement checks and concerns throughout my pregnancy. EVERY single time I was there, I felt listened to, advocated for, respected and safe. There is not a single bad egg in the bunch of nurses and doctors. Every single person was phenomenal. During my actual labor and delivery, I was very nervous because it was my first time giving birth... but again, everyone made me feel safe, taken care of, and comfortable. I knew both me, my husband and our new baby were in good hands. I am forever grateful for everyone's care, knowledge and kindness. Thank you to everyone at SMH!

My mom was recently hospitalized and I am in awe of the care she has received all the way from the ER to the cardiac unit once she was admitted. Each employee and volunteer we encountered was so friendly and helpful. I would never choose another hospital in this area over SMH. If you are able to make it here it is worth the drive. Each nurse and doctor treated her with dignity and kindness and i thank them for their valued service.
