oday was supposed to be our first appointment with Nemours and my short experience with the front desk was enough to make me consider making the drive to Tallahassee instead. We arrived at 12:43, seven minutes before we were supposed to be there at 12:50. The door was locked so I called the number I found on google and was told they were probably on lunch. No biggie! We're early anyways and there was an employee walking up just then! I told the lady on the phone thank you while the front desk employee unlocked the door. She immediately closed it behind her, saying nothing to us. I get it, I don't want to talk to anyone until I'm clocked in myself and by the miserable look on her face, her lunch clearly wasn't long enough. We wait a few more minutes and the Dr sees us waiting in the hallway. He seemed confused that we were out there but I told him my appointment time and he unlocked the door and poked his head in, ostensibly to let them know that we were there. When no one answered he very kindly walked us down the hall and told us to take a seat. We told him thank you and waited there for the next forty minutes. Mind you, this is our very first visit. I have no idea how this office is set up. But I work in healthcare myself and understand that appointments around noon are apt to run kind of late for triage due to lunch breaks. Even still, no one saying anything or checking on us seemed odd. My husband got up and went to check the door. The same lady who saw us waiting in the hallway and ignored our presence entirely, Miss Valerie, informed him that our appointment had been canceled, as we were over thirty minutes late. When we explained that we had been there the whole time and were sitting right where the doctor had told us to she said 'well, I didn't see you.' So she had unlocked the door and said absolutely nothing to us. When we tried to clear things up and explain that this was our first time here and we had merely done as we were told, she got visibly irritated, rude and accusatory. I've worked in customer service my whole life, if this situation had been approached with any kind of grace or accountability I would have rescheduled my appointment without a fuss. When I said 'we weren't late, you saw us right outside. Three different people saw us waiting there.' I was told that she only gets a twenty minute lunch break and she will not apologize for not wanting to speak to patients while on her break. I've been waiting weeks for this appointment. I'm 25 weeks pregnant and I don't know what's wrong with my baby. I could have found out today if Ms. Valerie could have found it in her to spare me three words in the three minutes before she clocked back in. Wait right here Be right back Or Hey we're open! The doctor seemed kind and attentive and I don't want to miss out on getting the best care I can for my daughter. I am begrudgingly going back, but I sincerely hope you read this review and discuss whether or not this is the kind of patient care you want your front desk to emulate.
