This is the most efficient and hospitable medical practice I've ever encountered. Every step of the way, from initial consultation with surgeon Dr. Kevin Accola to my post-surgical care and recovery prior to returning to my cardiologist, was exemplary. We spent nearly an hour talking with Dr. Accola's Physician's Assistant, who among other things explained the alternatives of mitral valve repair vs. replacement, the different types of mitral valves available, and the pros and cons of each. When Dr. Accola came in, he showed me the video of my valve operating (not well - it had gotten progressively worse over five years). After discussing attempting a repair or replacing the valve with a new one, I elected to have it replaced and scheduled the procedure. Dr. Accola patiently answered all my questions, told me what I could expect coming out of the procedure and beyond, and was very helpfulaabout my short term limitations and my longer term recovery to full function. In the hospital for six days, I saw him and his nurse practitioner several times before being discharged. Follow up appointments were easy to schedule and on time. The nurses and admins in the practice operate as an effective team. As I said, best medical practice I've ever experienced.
