HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital Emergency Room

This was the worst experience ever. The staff were rude and non compassionate except the nurse practitioner. The law of HIPPA was completely broken! I could have told you every patients social security number, history and why they were there in detail! Putting patients in a chair for 8 hrs is unacceptable when they are so sick! Putting them all in the same room with a partition that didn't even go to the wall is ridiculous and unacceptable!! The person who came got my daughter for an ultrasound didn't even speak and just pointed to the foot rests for HER to put them down!!!!! The doctors gave patients their diagnosis and treatment plan right there for all to hear! One patient had to holler nurse 3 times when she was within ear shot to ask for a blanket and she said when I get time I will bring one!!!! What!!!!! Y'all should be ashamed to call this a hospital!!! I am enclosing photos of how close everyone was as well as the patients across the room!! Totally unacceptable!!!!! Will NEVER be back and I am contemplating taking this further!! Never have I been treated with no respect or compassion at any hospital!!

I was checked in and brought to a room for assessment in a very short time . The staff were very efficient and courteous. Labs were drawn and studies performed rapidly to diagnosis my condition and treatment initiated.. The ER Physician kept me informed during the process and fully explained exam and lab findings. Treatment was started and my cardiologist was contacted to arrange follow-up care. I was very satisfied with the overall experience and care that I received

I was seen at the ER for a migraine that had lasted for 12 days and it greatly affected my vision. When I was first taken back, I was put into a room with 3-4 other people which was ok, the lights were off. Then I was moved into a room and told I was going to be admitted. After several hours in the room and talking to the tele-neurologist I was given meds to help with the migraine. It didn't work well so they tried some other cocktail on me. I was very sensitive to light and noise as most people with a migraine are. I was then moved out of the dark and quiet room into the hallway under a speaker and light, close to the nurses station I believe. The nurses were loud and all the beeping put me over the top. I stopped at least 3 nurses to see if they were going to move me back to a room (I was in front of an empty room) and they would either just walk away or tell me they didn't know what was going on. After several hours the ER emptied out a lot so there were many rooms. I finally got one nurse to stop and asked him if I could go into a room and why I was removed from the room I was in. He stated that if I wasn't on a drip medicine or a heart patient, they take you out of the room. That's fine, BUT a migraine is severe pain and when there are open rooms a migraine patient should not be left in a hallway. I was upset, I was crying in pain, my head was covered, etc. but no one stopped to see about me. I had just gotten the migraine cocktail before being moved into the hallway. It didn't work because I was bombarded with noises, lights, and movement. My friend came and she had to ask roughly 4 times for me to get some med relief of some kind. I felt like I was just a number there and since I wasn't being seen for a heart issue I didn't matter. I understand heart patients are in serious conditions and should take precedent, but the nurses and head nurse need to know the patience in their ED. If someone is there due to a migraine, that patient should not be place where their condition could worsen like mine did. My migraine was so bad, I spent 5 days as an inpatient. Do better!

The ambulance responded quickly. The staff in the ER were quick and efficient. The place was over flowing with patients but the staff kept up a very hectic pace. I was tested and retested. I can't pronounce much less spell my problems. An IV and other meds were given to me. I was discharged about 5 hours later. I am grateful for their professionalism and compassion.

I was taken by ambulance for vomiting blood and extreme HG symptoms as well as possible allergic reaction to antibiotics. I was booked under "UTI" which was not the reason for me being there. Nobody calls 911 over a UTI. I was seated in a chair with NO privacy whatsoever for hours. Never saw a room. Hardly received any treatment at all. The only upside is the nurse, doctor and lady that did my paperwork were very nice.
