I was hospitalized for 5 days. The nurses were wonderful. The doctors were all hospitalists who dropped by once a day, unannounced. They definitely were not interested in my condition. The billing department has made countless mistakes and threats for collections even though I paid my bills in full every time I received one. They are still hounding me after three months and sending three checks for the balance--which I discovered was inaccurate! My bank paid the balance initially and after that check cleared, JM returned it to my bank with no explanation. No one with authority returns calls. They owe me a substantial refund and say they will give me credit for future bills even though I have asked for a refund. I don't think anyone there knows how to read mail or use a calculator. I have also tried to ascertain where their office so I can meet with a live person with authority. I am willing to pay cash to have this settled. No word from them after two months of waiting for a promised phone call!

I have had plenty of experience with this medical center. My review is mostly for Behring Pavillion/Cancer services. I felt every patient in the cancer building was treated with respect by everyone from admin people to doctors. The nurses doing infusions were kind and all communications were prompt and clear. Dr. Aditi Choudhry and team are great oncologists and I would trust them with any of my family members or friends.
I think the infusion center should be more accommodating. My chemo required me to be there every 3rd week, Monday - Friday, from 8am - 3pm. A 35-hour chemo week is hard enough, but the infusion center has limited and truthfully terrible overpriced food options, and it is a black hole for cell service and wifi. This was especially frustrating, as I attempted to continue working remotely during chemo, but the wifi was so bad (even a booster/hotspot wouldnt work) that I eventually had to cave and eat some PTO. Some chemo patients have to spend a looong time in the infusion centers. In 2025 wifi isn't a luxury, it is a necessity for work and communication. Behring Pavillion needs to improve this.

I recently had a procedure at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and was truly blown away by the exceptional care I received. From start to finish, every staff member made me feel safe, supported, and genuinely cared for.
The post-surgical care team on 5th Floor West -- including the nurses, nursing assistants, charge nurses, and hospitalist doctor -- was absolutely phenomenal. Their attentiveness, compassion, and professionalism meant the world to me, especially since I was going through this experience completely on my own.
A heartfelt thank you as well to the 2nd floor surgical team in pre-op and post-op. Their calm and kind demeanor helped ease my nerves and made everything feel manageable.
Even the patient transporters were incredibly warm and thoughtful. I may have walked in alone, but I never once felt that way thanks to the incredible staff at John Muir, Walnut Creek.
Thank you all for showing me what true, compassionate care looks like.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Our experience here was a disaster from start to finish, and I would never recommend John Muir to any family bringing a child into the world.
Our birth plan was completely ignored. No one seemed to be on the same page -- staff repeatedly asked about circumcision and newborn injections (hepatitis B, vitamin K, etc.) despite everything being outlined ahead of time. We specifically requested to keep our placenta, and we never received it. It was obvious that no one was actually following our wishes.
The hospital itself felt sloppy and unprepared:
I reported my lost wallet to a nurse, and no one ever followed up.
The "guest Wi-Fi" was slower than my cell data -- unacceptable in 2025.
The toilet in our room wouldn't flush, and we were told the batteries needed replacing to make it work.
We were placed in the wrong room.
Worst of all, staff called my hospital room phone at 3:30 PM on a Friday to demand payment before the billing office closed -- two days before we were even discharged.
This was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime, special moment for our family. Instead, John Muir made it stressful, frustrating, and deeply disappointing. They do not listen, they are disorganized, and the overall quality of care was shockingly poor.
Avoid this hospital if you value being respected, heard, and properly cared for.

The labor and delivery department was good and had good nurses, the only big issue is all their equipments keep beeping every hour and you have to call a nurse to come turn it off!! The mother and baby department however is not good at all! The first night w got there our nurse was Melissa, I got zero help from her, as soon as I got there after a c-section with a crying baby she hands me a folder and tells me to read through it for information! Srsly, did she expect me to read through that folder after a surgery and with a crying newborn? There was so many info I missed. I asked for a lactation consultant and she said I put your name down so I'm waiting for a lactation consultant the whole night, later I found out they won't come to you the first 24 hrs and the nurses are supposed to help you. Their lactation service is the worst part of this hospital, they have only one lactation consultant who works 7to3pm. My delivery was at 3:45 pm meaning I didn't see the lactation till day 3!! By then my baby's blood sugar dropped so much that the pediatrician prescribed formula feeding. Trying to breast feed for 3 days without a good guide made my nipples so sore and my baby and me so frustrated that I completely lost interest in breastfeeding even though I really wanted to do that! I am formula feeding now and I think this hospital played a huge role in that so for this I'm so mad at them! There were many great nurses there though, Danielle, Amanda, Destiny and lovely Corona were absolutely amazing. Big shot out to Corona for ordering a blood sugar test for my baby, she just had a hunch since the baby wasn't fed for 3 days and if it wasn't for her, I'm not sure what would happen to my baby!
