Avoid this place! Sonoma specialty hospital lacks professionalism and education on their staff. Their case managers are rude and nursing directors have no idea as to what's going on with patients. My uncle was sent here for rehabilitation after surgery. This facility made so many mistakes it is unbelievable. Their nurses didn't know how to operate equipment. They do not answer the call for help button when pushed many times which left him laying in feces for 45 minutes. He got a bed sore and feces could cause an infection. He was not prescribed any antibiotics for this sore. The case manager (Ron Bronner) was very rude to family when we asked questions regarding our loved ones care. The case manager made it clear to us that our loved one could not leave this facility until 20 days because his insurance had pre-paid his stay. This 20 day thing was not true at all! The transport (Life-west) took my loved one to the wrong doctors appointment. They took him to the ER instead. Their physical therapy people only came for 30 minutes everyother day. There nursing director is clueless as to patient care. The food here was not good. THIS PLACE NEEDS A BIG HUGE WARNING SIGN POSTED ON THE FRONT DOOR THAT SAYS ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
HORRIBLE.

This place lacks compassion and professionalism. My mom was transferred to this place after receiving an Anoxic brain injury. She is a diabetic type one and they kept giving her the wrong dosage. Her levels were all over the 300s. They assumed she was type 2 for some reason even though we clarified multiple times she was type 1. The wrong dosage kept continuing for over a week.
They tried discharging her without training and also without a wheelchair. The only reason she was discharged a day later was because i basically begged them. The case worked hadn't put the order in for the wheelchair; even though she had stated that she did. Not much training was given on taking care of the PEG tube, and on how to take care of her, also we only had received limited supplies. The last day she was there i tried to speak to a doctor and they turned me down. I also tried to speak to a case worker and i was turned down. She was not ready to be discharged and every nurse that was in that room knew she was not ready.
The case worker that i kept speaking to before the discharge told me that my mom had to go with me, because no other facility was available and if she did fine one than it would be a couple of hours away from me. Manteca, and San Jose was mentioned. I am from lake county. PEG tube was pushed on us with a promise of a facility but it didn't happen. I asked for more time and their respond was "this is not a long term facility. She needs to go home with you now."
I am now home with my mom since September 11 and she still hasn't been able to get a fallow up appointment, because they placed the appointment at fairfield. I had to call insurance and try to move everything to lake county. Which was a nightmare because no one wanted to speak to me. Her establish care appointment is until January. I have been to the hospital twice since then because her PEG tube is infected. My mom was basically thrown out of this place. So Diana(case workers), thank you for making this hard time so much more difficult. Your response to not moving her insurance was basically because the process was to long and difficult. I personally tell everyone that i meet to not go to this place. They are not here for you and for the patients. They are here just here for a paycheck(management). There are a few that actually cared and to you... thank you, and please work somewhere else.

This facility lacks compassion for patients. They keep them sedated so they can do minimal care. My husband was a patient there for months while I tried to get him to a facility closer to home. Sometimes he was so dirty I had to ask him to be cleansed. He acquired bed sores and outbreaks on his skin and he always had an infection. The worst part about the stay were the social workers, case managers and administrators very unprofessional. Fight like hell to keep your loved ones from going there.

Sonoma Specialty is the only LTAC in Sonoma County and they serve an important gap in care for patients who need to be stabilized before discharging home or to Skilled-nursing/post-acute care. The staff are helpful and caring and the hospital is a staple of the community.

My other half whom I've been with for over 11 years is in this place they don't have phones in the rooms I'm currently up north I can not go see him I've been hung or disconnected have to call back at least three or more times, They act like me wanting to speak to him is inconvenient for them... I'm beside worrying just wanted to hear his voice didn't get to speak to him at all yesterday, and she wouldn't let me talk to him today.. I think I should be able to speak to him when I call .. tell for people that are supposed to have a heart and take care they are offly rude to the love ones that can not be there and just want to hear there voice.. They have done this to a lot of other friends and family that have called to speak to him.. you'll be getting a lot more bad reviews from other friends and family besides me.get ready for incoming reviews that does not look good for your so called care providers you have working at you so called Hospital..
