I got told by him that I'm morbidly obese and that all my issues would go away if I lost weight (I am overweight but most definitely not morbidly obese). He also came in without knocking after I had taken my shirt off for an EKG before fully getting my robe on. He also shamed me for not knowing my parents complete medical history, and didn't listen to any of my concerns or symptoms or previous medical history, talked condescendingly and made it seem like I was dumb for the way I was explaining things. Please save yourself the emotional distress and go to someone else!!

I drove my mother-in-law to see Dr. M after her recent stay in the hospital. He wanted all info from hospital stay to have a complete picture with which to help her. We didn't have it. He told us how we could get it and to come back for a follow up soon. We called hospital and gave permission to have info sent over. We returned and he evaluated her past history plus hospital info. I appreciated that he took time to really evaluate the situation. He has nice personality.

I am leaving one star for DR. PAUL MELTZER ONLY. I wouldn't feel safe as a person of color or Spanish speaker in the same room as this doctor. I never want to see this doctor again, and I wouldn't want anyone else who might not have enough agency to advocate for themselves to be in the care of someone so insensitive and culturally-incompetent. The receptionists, check-out, and the office manager were all nice - but I've never experienced the level of disrespect from anyone in the medical field before. My mom was referred to this practice by her primary care provider, and I came to drop her off. She doesn't speak much English, but because Dr. Meltzer speaks Spanish, she was going to see him alone. In the last moment, she asked me to go in with her. Things felt off immediately, he was rushing and not taking time to ask A NEW PATIENT her medical history with good bedside manners. He sounded exasperated, blamed us for not having a full record of her 20yr medical history after having a stroke, and soon started mocking the medical insurance my mom has, saying he would have to "invoke the insurance gods" to see if that insurance would approve any of the procedures he would request. He also made repetitive comments about her weight mentioning that her issues wouldn't stop unless "she got healthy." He didn't bother to ask about her health journey but simply said she was very overweight and not healthy. As soon as I mentioned that I didn't like the condescending tone with which he was speaking to us, he got defensive and started towering toward me (I was sitting down and he was standing up, holding a laptop). My mom, not understanding fully the conversation we were having in English, noticed that he was getting near me with the laptop (less than a foot away) and was very visibly agitated - she looked concerned. I had to put my hand out so he would back away. I asked what the next steps were so that I could explain to my mom in Spanish and he dismissed me with, "Well, the next steps are for you to get out of this room." If I wounded whatever male ego he had by speaking up I don't care, he is there to make sure patients are taken care of and should not be making comments that are irrelevant to the care they should be receiving. Choose a different doctor.
